This position offers an opportunity for an experienced professional nurse to play a central role in shaping clinical training and professional development within the Ekurhuleni Health District. Based in the Directorate of Human Resource Development, the Clinical Programme Coordinator Grade 1 will be responsible for planning, organising, coordinating, and monitoring all clinical training activities across the district. The post sits within the public health training ecosystem, working closely with central office schedules, district training plans, tertiary institutions, and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will help ensure that clinical practice aligns with national guidelines by developing and updating training materials, conducting skills audits and training needs analyses, and facilitating courses for both clinicians and non-clinicians. The role also includes coordinating formal education with nursing education institutions, supporting work-integrated learning for clinical students, and monitoring continuous professional development in line with the provincial CPD framework and the South African Nursing Council.
Applicants must hold a four-year diploma or degree in Nursing that meets the requirements of Notice No. R425, along with a minimum of seven years of appropriate, recognisable nursing experience after registering with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse. Current registration with SANC is essential, as is computer literacy and a valid driver’s licence, although an exception to the licence requirement is granted for people with disabilities. A post-basic qualification in nursing education or clinical training facilitation is an added advantage. Evidence of attending short courses such as Basic HIV, TB, STI, IMCI, COVID-19 vaccination, VTP, APC, EPI, C&FP, NIMART, ACC, AYFS, BANC Plus, and Mental Health is expected. The role demands excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, strong interpersonal relationships, and the ability to plan, organise, and facilitate training courses. Knowledge of curriculum design is required, as is proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and the ability to work independently and with all stakeholders.
Key duties include ensuring clinicians practice according to guidelines, coordinating Clinical Support Programmes, participating in District Training Operational Plans, and submitting plans and quality training reports by set dates. The coordinator will also attend stakeholder meetings, facilitate training to non-clinicians, and perform any other delegated tasks. Candidates should note that foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA, and shortlisted applicants will be required to submit certified copies of documents. The department will conduct personnel suitability checks, and a skills or knowledge test may be required. Medical surveillance may be undertaken as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The Department of Health is committed to promoting representivity in the public service and specifically encourages women and people with disabilities to apply.
