This position is for a Clinical Programme Coordinator specialising in comprehensive health within the Metro Health Services directorate, based at the Northern/Tygerberg Sub-Structure Office. The role sits within the provincial health structure and is central to translating strategic health priorities into practical, facility-level action across the substructure. The coordinator will focus on implementing the life course approach, particularly in the areas of HIV/AIDS/STI/TB, family and community services, and chronic disease management, while also strengthening linkages between different levels of care and community-based services. The work requires close collaboration with health facilities, non-profit organisations, and external partners to embed Community Orientated Primary Care principles and ensure that services are not fragmented but delivered as an integrated continuum.

Applicants must hold a nursing qualification that enables registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse. This can be the basic R425 diploma or degree, or an equivalent qualification such as R683 with the relevant additional modules, or a four-year bachelor’s degree in nursing under R174 or an equivalent combination. Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse is mandatory. In addition, at least seven years of appropriate and recognisable nursing experience is required after registration in General Nursing. A valid Code B/EB driver’s licence is essential, as the post involves travel across the geographical area of the Chief Directorate to provide on-site support and oversight.

The core duties revolve around coordination, support, and quality assurance. The coordinator will oversee the implementation of programme-specific quality assurance policies, clinical protocols, norms, and standards at health facilities, including the 95/95/95 targets for HIV care. A strong focus is placed on skills development and training to support integrated service delivery, including NIMART mentoring and capacity building. The role also demands robust monitoring and evaluation, including the collection, validation, and interpretation of statistical data to track service goals and targets. The coordinator is expected to identify gaps and implement projects to improve integrated primary health care within the substructure.

The ideal candidate will have solid knowledge of maternal, child, and women’s health, as well as HIV/AIDS/STI/TB and chronic diseases. They should understand management principles and Community Orientated Primary Care, and be able to work independently while also functioning well in a multi-disciplinary team. Computer literacy in MS Office tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is needed for reporting and communication. Candidates should note that a practical or oral assessment forms part of the selection process, and no payment of any kind is required when applying. This is an opportunity for an experienced professional nurse to move into a coordinating role with significant public health impact within the Western Cape health system.
