This position is for a Clinical Programme Co-ordinator specialising in Quality Assurance, based at Newcastle Regional Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal. The role is a professional nursing post, graded within the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) framework, and is designed for an experienced nurse who will take leadership in driving and monitoring the quality of care delivered across the hospital and its associated clinics. The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team and act as a key link between clinical practice, management, and national and provincial quality standards. The post is particularly focused on ensuring that the facility meets the requirements of the Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC), as well as various provincial quality initiatives such as Ideal Hospital and Ideal Clinic programmes.

Applicants must hold a Matric or Senior Certificate, plus a Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Nursing, or an equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse and Midwife. A minimum of seven years of appropriate and recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing is required, and current registration with the SANC for 2026 as both a Professional Nurse and Midwife is essential. The role demands an in-depth understanding of nursing legislation, legal and ethical practices, and how these affect service delivery. Candidates should also demonstrate knowledge of human resources and financial policies, strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills, and a solid grasp of Total Quality Management (TQM), norms and standards, Batho Pele Principles, the Patient Rights Charter, and OHSC guidelines.

The core duties involve performing quality improvement audits and surveys on a monthly, quarterly, and as-needed basis, reporting findings to senior management. The co-ordinator will monitor and evaluate the delivery of quality care at both the institution and clinic level, including clinical care, waiting times, and patient experience. This includes ensuring compliance with national and provincial quality programmes, managing patient safety incidents and complaints, and reporting on annual returns and the early warning system to the Office of Health Standards Compliance. The post holder will also co-ordinate quality improvement initiatives, manage the facility’s accreditation programme, and provide expert advice on various aspects of quality care to the hospital and clinics.

This is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. The appointment is subject to security clearance, qualification verification, citizenship checks, credit record checks, and previous employment verification. Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo two pre-entry assessments, one practical and one integrity-based. Applicants should note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and no travel or subsistence claims will be paid for interview attendance. The reference number for this post must be indicated on the Z83 application form and the back of the envelope when applying.
