This is a professional nursing vacancy within the Thabo Mofutsanyana District, offering thirteen posts for Clinical Practitioner Nurses in Primary Health Care. The role is graded under the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) as PNB1-2, meaning it provides a structured career path for nurses registered with the South African Nursing Council. The position operates within the public health system, focusing on delivering comprehensive primary health care services to communities across the district. Successful candidates will work as part of multi-disciplinary teams, often in clinics and community health centres, and will support the district’s efforts in implementing PHC re-engineering and achieving ideal health facility standards.

To be considered, applicants must have a Senior Certificate (Matric) plus a Diploma or Degree in nursing that allows registration with the SANC as a Registered Nurse in General Nursing. In addition, a post-basic qualification in Clinical Nursing Science, Health Assessment, Treatment and Care (Primary Health Care) of at least one year, accredited by the SANC, is required. For appointment at Grade 1, a minimum of four years of appropriate experience after registration as a Registered Nurse in General Nursing is needed. For Grade 2, at least fourteen years of appropriate experience is required, with ten of those years gained after obtaining the post-basic PHC qualification. Current registration with the SANC for the 2026/2027 period is essential. The role demands strong planning and organisational skills, effective communication and report writing, a patient-centred approach aligned with Batho Pele principles, and a sound understanding of nursing legislation and legal frameworks.

The core duties involve managing comprehensive PHC services, including PHC re-engineering, key priority programmes, and ensuring compliance with ideal health facility and regulated standards. Practitioners will provide more complex and advanced comprehensive nursing treatment and care to patients in a cost-effective, efficient and equitable manner. They will act as leaders in planning and implementing health promotion and prevention activities, linking with community structures and community-based services. Data collection, management and reporting are also key responsibilities, as is maintaining high-quality record-keeping standards. The role includes overseeing and supervising subordinate staff within the facility, and providing PHC services to other facilities in Sub-Districts 3 and 4 as the need arises.

This is a demanding but rewarding role for nurses committed to public health and community care. Applicants should note that the selection process includes strict compliance with application requirements, including the use of the new Z83 form and a comprehensive CV. Shortlisted candidates will need to produce certified copies of qualifications and other documents, and may be subject to personnel suitability checks, including criminal record, financial, qualification, citizenship, reference and employment verification. Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation certificate, and dual citizens or non-SA citizens must provide additional documentation as specified. Successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement within three months of appointment, and undergo a security clearance. Shortlisted candidates will also undertake pre-entry assessments, including a practical exercise and an integrity assessment. The department reserves the right not to make appointments, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
