This permanent position as a Clinical Nurse Practitioner Grade 1 to 2 within Primary Health Care is based at Gouda Clinic in the Drakenstein Sub-district of the Cape Winelands Health District. The role forms part of the Western Cape government's health services and is central to delivering comprehensive primary care to the surrounding community. Appointed candidates will be expected to function within an ecosystem of health facilities, meaning that while the base location is Gouda Clinic, clinical services may need to be rendered across other institutions within that ecosystem to sustain health service delivery. The post is graded according to the applicable occupational-specific dispensation, with entry at either Grade 1 or Grade 2 depending on the candidate's years of experience and qualifications.

Candidates must hold a basic R425 qualification, meaning a diploma or degree in nursing, or an equivalent qualification that permits registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse. In addition, a post-basic qualification in Clinical Nursing Science, specifically Health Assessment, Treatment and Care, is required. This may be a one-year diploma accredited with the SANC, or a four-year bachelor's degree in nursing, or a postgraduate diploma in Primary Care Nursing accredited with the SANC. Current registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse is essential. For appointment at Grade 1, a minimum of four years of appropriate nursing experience after registration is required. For Grade 2, at least fourteen years of appropriate nursing experience is needed, of which ten years must have been gained after obtaining the relevant post-basic primary care qualification. A valid Code B or EB driver's licence is an inherent requirement of the job.

The duties of the role are broad and patient-centred. The nurse will assist with managing the burden of disease in line with Western Cape guidelines and protocols, provide and maintain quality care to all patients, and ensure accurate clinical records, statistics registers and referral records are kept. Effective use of resources and stock within budget constraints is another key responsibility, as is participating in community events and raising awareness of health-related issues. The nurse must work as part of an inter-professional and multi-disciplinary team, while also being able to work independently. Supervision and mentoring of lower categories of staff form part of the role, alongside maintaining professional growth, ethical standards and self-development.

Desired competencies include NIMART training or experience, in-depth knowledge of nursing and public service legislation, computer literacy in MS Word and Excel, and the ability to promote quality patient care through the implementation of protocols, guidelines and standards. Notably, no payment of any kind is required when applying. Candidates who do not yet possess the stipulated registration requirements may still apply, provided they submit proof of application for registration and proof of payment of the prescribed fees on or before the day of the interview. This concession applies only to first-time applicants for registration in the post-basic primary care qualification. Enquiries should be directed to the contact person listed in the advertisement.
