CLINICAL MANAGER: MEDICAL: GRADE 1 (SHIFTS) (X1 POST)

This is a senior clinical leadership position within the Limpopo Department of Health, based at Groblersdal Hospital, for a Clinical Manager: Medical at Grade 1 level, working shifts. The role is crucial for overseeing and coordinating medical and healthcare services across the hospital’s geographical service area, ensuring that patients receive continuous, well-managed care and that appropriate referral pathways are maintained. The post is graded at a senior medical management level and includes an all-inclusive remuneration package, with a rural allowance applicable depending on the location’s classification.

To be considered, applicants must hold a qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Practitioner and must currently be registered with the HPCSA in that capacity. At least three years of appropriate experience as an independent medical practitioner after registration is required. Experience as head of clinical services will be an added advantage. Candidates must be South African citizens or permanent residents, be willing to work after hours, be on call and perform shift work, and be computer literate in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and virtual meeting platforms. A valid driver’s licence is required unless the applicant has a disability. Strong knowledge of health and public service legislation, sound clinical knowledge, medical ethics with an emphasis on budget control, a solid background in epidemiology or the ability to use health information for planning, and sound knowledge of human resource management and quality assurance programmes are all essential.

The main duties include leading and managing the medical and healthcare services to ensure continuity of care and appropriate referrals within the hospital’s service area. The incumbent will ensure clinical governance, adherence to clinical guidelines and protocols, and coordinate the clinical responsibilities of medical practitioners and allied health personnel, including managing outreach and in-reach services. In-service training and supervision of all health care providers form a key part of the role. The manager will also participate in the department’s quality improvement programme, ensure policies and procedures are followed, allocate and manage both human and financial resources, monitor key performance indicators and plan quality improvement strategies to address gaps.
