This position offers an opportunity to serve as a Client Service Officer within the Public Employment Services division of the Department of Employment and Labour, based at the Postmasburg Labour Centre. The role is central to the department’s mandate of facilitating employment and supporting work-seekers and employers through the labour market. As a frontline officer, you will be responsible for delivering essential services that connect individuals with work and learning opportunities, while also ensuring that administrative processes run smoothly and in line with departmental policies and legislative frameworks.
To be considered for this role, candidates must hold a Grade 12 or National Senior Certificate. Beyond the formal qualification, the department requires a solid working knowledge of departmental policies, procedures and guidelines, as well as relevant labour legislation and regulations. This includes familiarity with the Employment Services Act, the Public Service Act and its regulations, and the Batho Pele Principles, which underpin service delivery standards in the public sector. In terms of skills, the successful applicant will need to demonstrate computer literacy, strong communication and interpersonal abilities, effective problem-solving and listening skills, proper telephone etiquette, interviewing capabilities, and the ability to interpret legislation accurately. These competencies are essential for engaging with diverse clients and navigating the complexities of employment services.
The core duties of the role revolve around the use of the ESSA system, which is the department’s electronic platform for managing employment services. You will render registration services for work-seekers on ESSA, ensuring that their details are captured accurately and efficiently. Similarly, you will provide registration administrative services for work and learning opportunities, helping employers and training providers list available positions and programmes. A key part of the job is referring work-seekers to Employment Counselling services, ensuring that individuals receive the guidance and support they need to improve their employability. You will also provide administrative support in the filling of work and learning opportunities, which involves matching suitable candidates to available openings. General administrative duties form part of the daily routine, and you may be called upon to participate in advocacy sessions as and when required, promoting the department’s services and employment initiatives to the community.
This is a permanent post graded according to the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) framework, and the remuneration is at a junior administrative level. The position is based in Postmasburg, and interested applicants should note that the department has specific employment equity targets for this vacancy. Priority will be given to Coloured Males, Indian Females, and White Males, in line with the department’s affirmative action and transformation objectives. The role offers a chance to contribute meaningfully to public employment services in a rural labour centre, where the impact of your work is directly felt by job-seekers and local employers. If you are detail-oriented, service-driven, and committed to upholding the principles of Batho Pele, this position provides a solid foundation for a career in the public service. The closing date for applications is clearly indicated in the vacancy circular, and all applications must be submitted through the prescribed channels, either by post, hand delivery, or email to the specified provincial office.
