This position offers an opportunity to serve as the first point of contact for clients engaging with the Department of Employment and Labour’s Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES). Three posts are available, located at the Kwa-Mhlanga, Mashishing and Bronkhorstspruit Labour Centres in Mpumalanga. As a Client Service Officer, the incumbent will be based within the Registration Service and will play a critical role in ensuring that members of the public receive prompt, courteous and accurate assistance when they approach the labour centre with queries or complaints related to labour legislation.

The role is designed as an entry-level position, requiring only a Grade 12 or Matriculation certificate, with no prior work experience specified. However, candidates must possess a sound working knowledge of all relevant labour legislation and regulations, including related International Labour Organisation conventions, the Public Service Regulations and the Public Service Act. Familiarity with departmental policies, procedures and guidelines, as well as the Batho Pele principles, is essential to delivering service that aligns with government standards. The successful candidate will also need strong interpersonal and communication skills, telephone etiquette, interviewing abilities, computer literacy, and the capacity to interpret legislation and solve problems effectively.

In terms of daily responsibilities, the Client Service Officer will render services at the help desk as the first point of entry within the Registration Service. This involves receiving clients, understanding their needs, and resolving all complaints received on IES legislation within the scope and dictates of the IES Standard Operating Procedure. Beyond complaint resolution, the officer will render general administrative duties, which may include record-keeping, filing, and supporting the broader team. The officer will also participate in advocacy sessions as and when required, helping to raise awareness of labour rights and obligations among workers, employers and the public.

These posts are subject to employment equity targets. For the Kwa-Mhlanga and Mashishing Labour Centres, priority will be given to African males, Coloured males, Indian females, White males, and people with disabilities. For the Bronkhorstspruit Labour Centre, the equity target prioritises White males and White females. Applicants should note that this is a public service position within the Department of Employment and Labour, and the remuneration is as advertised. Enquiries may be directed to the named contact persons at the respective centres. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual who is passionate about public service and labour rights to begin a career within a government department that directly impacts the world of work. The closing date and application procedures are provided in the full vacancy circular, and interested candidates are encouraged to review those details carefully before applying.
