This position is for a Clerk Stores: Transit based at the Kroonstad Training College, operating within the broader supply chain and asset management environment of the Department of Correctional Services. The role is central to ensuring that goods and assets moving through the college’s transit stores are properly accounted for, safely kept, and accurately recorded. As a transit store clerk, the incumbent will act as the custodian of items while they are in the college’s care, making sure that nothing is lost, damaged, or unaccounted for during the receiving, movement, and issuing processes. The post is advertised as an entry-level opportunity within the Public Service, requiring only a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification, with no prior work experience necessary. This makes it an accessible gateway for individuals seeking to begin a career in government stores management, logistics, or supply chain administration.

The successful candidate will be expected to perform a range of duties that demand attention to detail and a methodical approach. These include the safekeeping of all items in transit, the barcoding of assets upon receipt, and the maintenance of acknowledgement of receipts and issue voucher registers. The clerk will also monitor the movement of stock and face value forms, check incoming stock for both quality and quantity, and take responsibility for the overall management of assets. These duties require a solid understanding of how government stores operate, as well as the ability to keep accurate records and follow prescribed procedures. While no experience is mandatory, knowledge of LOGIS and LAP, as well as any comparable stores or logistics experience, will be considered a strong advantage. Computer literacy is essential, as the role involves working with digital systems and records.

Beyond the technical requirements, the position demands a range of behavioural and interpersonal competencies. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act and Treasury Regulations, as well as the supply chain management framework and government procurement processes. They should also understand the broader Public Service policy and legislative framework. Strong communication skills, client orientation and customer focus, problem solving and analysis, and service delivery innovation are all important. The role also calls for decision making ability, people management and empowerment, integrity and honesty, confidentiality, and good interpersonal relations. Assertiveness, networking ability, and diplomacy are further attributes that will help the clerk interact effectively with colleagues, suppliers, and other stakeholders.

This is a permanent appointment under the Public Service Act, and the successful candidate will be based at the Kroonstad Training College. The vacancy is part of the Public Service Vacancy Circular, and interested applicants should ensure they meet all the requirements and submit their application through the prescribed channel before the closing date. Enquiries can be directed to the named contact officials at the National Head Office. This role offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the efficient functioning of a correctional services training institution while building a career in public sector supply chain and asset management.
