This position offers an entry-level opportunity within the Department of Correctional Services at the Kroonstad Training College, where the successful candidate will serve as a Clerk Stores with a specific focus on posting functions. The role sits within the broader supply chain and asset management environment of the college, ensuring that all stores-related documentation is accurately processed, recorded and filed in line with public service regulations. As a stores clerk dedicated to posting, the incumbent will act as a vital link between the warehouse, cost centres and the financial systems used by the department, helping to maintain proper control over receipts, issues and stock-related transactions.
Applicants need a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent qualification, and no prior work experience is required, making this an accessible entry point for those starting a career in government stores management or supply chain administration. However, any knowledge of LOGIS and LAP systems, or comparable experience in a similar environment, will be a distinct advantage. The department is looking for someone who is computer literate and who possesses a sound understanding of the Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations and the supply chain management framework. Strong communication skills, client orientation, problem-solving ability, decision-making and people management competencies are also expected, along with personal attributes such as integrity, honesty, confidentiality, assertiveness, diplomacy and the capacity to network effectively. A working knowledge of government procurement processes and the broader public service policy and legislative framework is essential to succeed in this role.
The core duties revolve around the accurate registration and processing of stores documentation. The clerk will register requisitions and vouchers on LOG 10 files, capture transactions on LOGIS, and post both external and internal receipt and issue vouchers. This includes handling extraordinary receipts and issues, channelling vouchers to the warehouse for issuing, and ensuring that all requisitions and vouchers are filed correctly. The role also requires updating LOG 10 files and maintaining numerical filing systems as registered, responding to enquiries from cost centres, and taking responsibility for the management of assets. These tasks demand meticulous attention to detail, a methodical approach to record-keeping, and the ability to work collaboratively with various internal stakeholders to ensure smooth stores operations.
This appointment will be made under the Public Service Act, meaning the successful candidate will be subject to the conditions and regulations applicable to public service employees. The post is based at the Kroonstad Training College, and interested applicants should note that only online applications submitted through the official departmental careers portal will be considered; no emailed, posted or hand-delivered applications are accepted. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual with a Grade 12 qualification to gain valuable experience in government stores management, financial record-keeping and supply chain processes within a correctional services training environment.
