The Western Cape Mobility Department is seeking to fill multiple cleaner positions within its Traffic Support Services unit, with posts available at various locations across the province. This entry-level role forms an essential part of maintaining a hygienic, safe and professional working environment for traffic officers, administrative staff and members of the public who interact with the department. As a cleaner, you will be expected to deliver a reliable and consistent standard of cleaning across designated facilities, ensuring that all areas are presentable and that cleaning equipment is handled correctly.
To be considered for this position, candidates must have Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) as a minimum qualification. While no formal tertiary education is required, applicants need to demonstrate a basic understanding of how to operate vacuum cleaners and other related cleaning equipment, as well as the procedures required to keep cleaning machines such as microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners and refrigerators properly maintained. Strong language skills, planning and organisational abilities, and effective communication are also essential. A willingness to work irregular hours is a key requirement, as cleaning duties may need to be performed outside standard office times to accommodate the operational needs of the traffic support environment.
The main duties of the role involve the provision of all cleaning services across the assigned workplace. This includes cleaning general kitchens, ensuring that restrooms are kept clean and hygienic, and taking responsibility for the care and maintenance of cleaning materials and equipment. You will be expected to follow established cleaning procedures, use supplies efficiently, and report any maintenance issues with equipment so that everything remains in good working order. The role demands attention to detail, reliability and a proactive approach to keeping the environment tidy and safe.
This vacancy is advertised as part of the Western Cape Government's broader recruitment drive, and the selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the employing department. Importantly, applicants from relevant local communities will receive preference, reflecting the department's commitment to local employment and transformation. As with all applications, only those submitted correctly and before the closing date will be considered; faxed copies are not accepted, and candidates who do not receive any correspondence within three months of the closing date should regard their application as unsuccessful. This is a Level 02 post within the public service, offering a stable career opportunity for individuals who take pride in their work and wish to contribute to the smooth operation of traffic support services in the Western Cape.
