The Chief Laundry Manager position is a permanent, full-time role situated within the Directorate: Facilities Management of a Western Cape government department. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall strategic and operational leadership of the institutional laundry, ensuring that all services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in compliance with relevant legislative frameworks. This is a senior supervisory role that requires a blend of technical knowledge, administrative acumen, and strong people management, as the post-holder will oversee daily production while also contributing to broader planning, risk management, and resource stewardship.

To be considered, candidates must possess an appropriate three-year Diploma or Degree, coupled with relevant experience in supervising or managing a laundry line. Beyond formal qualifications, the role demands a thorough working knowledge of SANS 10146 and SANS 1044, as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA 85 of 1993), the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and Public Service Regulations. Computer literacy, particularly in Word and Excel, is essential, along with accurate data capturing and recording skills. The successful candidate will also need excellent human relations and telephone abilities, strong leadership and supervisory capabilities, and proven problem-solving, strategic planning, and organisational skills. Financial, supply chain, and human resource management competencies are equally important, as is the capacity to work independently under pressure while leading a team safely.

The core duties are wide-ranging. The Chief Laundry Manager will implement and control the strategic management of the laundry, as well as the day-to-day operational services. This includes planning, coordinating, and supervising daily production, stock levels, storage, and distribution, all in line with the relevant SANS standards. The role also involves implementing and controlling quality assurance and risk management measures, assisting with operational expenditure and administrative prescripts, and applying human resource principles. Effective leadership and people management are central to the position. Additional responsibilities include conducting stocktaking, managing requisitions for equipment and repairs, writing off unserviceable stock, and managing government vehicle usage. The post-holder must also oversee health and safety inspections, pest control registers, emergency evacuation procedures, key control, and physical security measures, all in accordance with OHSA.

This role is physically demanding, requiring a willingness to work shifts, extended hours, or overtime when necessary. Candidates must also be physically capable of standing for long periods and lifting heavy loads or equipment. It is important to note that no payment of any kind is required when applying for this post, and applicants should be alert to any fraudulent requests for fees. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced laundry manager with strong leadership qualities to contribute meaningfully to a public sector facility management environment.
