    CHIEF EDUCATION OFFICER IN-HOUSE (02/2026)

    REQUIREMENTS

    BSc. or B.Ed Life Sciences (FET) degree plus a post-graduate degree. Natural history and related fields, understanding of

    biodiversity education, environmental education and the understanding of CAPS. At least 3 to 5 years’ relevant experience.

    Skills in teaching, communication, research, computer literacy, writing of funding proposals and a valid driver’s license.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop museum–based natural education programmes for, and with schools in line with the Curriculum Assessment

    Policy Statement (CAPS).

    • Develop museum-based natural education programmes with relevant stakeholders to promote a sense of national

    identity and social cohesion.

    • Establish work relationships and partnerships where possible with key stakeholders such as community structures,

    community-based organisations (CBO’s) and non-governmental organisations (NGO’s) to minimise costs for running

    and to enhance the effectiveness of programmes.

    • Develop and promote the use of innovative technology for the Museum’s education programmes.
    • Seek external funding for approved programmes.
    • Liaise with institutions and organisations involved with tourism to enhance the Museum’s profile.
    • Oversee implementation of the heritage education programmes that contribute in a meaningful way towards fulfilling

    the Museum’s mission.

    • Research and develop heritage education methodology, techniques and resources.
    • Disseminate research results both formally and informally, through discussions, workshops, seminars, conference

    presentations and publications.

    • Identify target groups, design and implement continuous programmes aimed at these groups.
    • Regularly monitor and evaluate community projects.
    • Assist in the preparation of annual budget, plans and reports for the department.
