This vacancy is for a Casual Worker position within the Risk and Integrity Management directorate of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), based in Pretoria. The appointment is for a fixed-term contract of twelve months, making it an entry-level opportunity for someone who wishes to gain hands-on administrative experience in a public sector governance environment. The role is ideal for a motivated individual who is comfortable working on a flexible, hourly basis within a structured government component.
Applicants do not need prior work experience, but must hold a Grade 12 or National Senior Certificate at NQF level 4, as recognised by SAQA. The position calls for someone who can work independently without constant supervision, while also thriving in a team setting. The successful candidate will need to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, often under pressure, and should be self-driven, creative, innovative, flexible and highly motivated. Strong coordination skills, a client-service orientation, initiative and close attention to detail are all essential. Practical computer literacy in Microsoft packages, including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook, is also required.
The core responsibilities revolve around supporting the risk management and integrity functions of the department. The incumbent will assist with risk management administration, monitor Management Action Plans (MAPs) to track progress, and provide administrative support for the BarnOwl system, which is used for risk and compliance management. Other duties include compiling risk management reports, organising committee and meeting administration, managing records and information, and offering general administrative support across the directorate. This means the role involves both routine clerical tasks and more focused coordination work that helps ensure the unit’s risk-related processes run smoothly.
Several important conditions accompany this post. Applications must be submitted on the new prescribed Z83 form, as the old form was withdrawn; failure to do so will lead to disqualification. Applicants are not required to attach certified copies of qualifications or other documents at the initial application stage, but must submit a fully completed and signed Z83 form along with a detailed curriculum vitae. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide certified documents before or on the day of the interview. Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation certificate. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted, and those who have not heard anything within three months of the closing date should regard their application as unsuccessful.
The department actively encourages applicants with disabilities to apply. The successful candidate will be required to disclose all registrable financial interests to the Director-General, sign a performance agreement and employment contract within three months of assuming duty, and obtain a top-secret security clearance. All appointments are subject to verification of qualifications, previous experience, citizenship, reference checks and security vetting. The department also reserves the right not to fill the post. In addition, shortlisted candidates will undergo a pre-entry practical exercise as part of the assessment process, and they must detail the courses they have passed in their CVs according to their academic transcripts. By applying, candidates consent to the processing of their personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, for recruitment purposes.
