PERMANENT POSITION
BUILDING TECHNICIAN (ELECTRICIAN)
The Joburg City Theatres (JCT), an entity of the City of Johannesburg that stimulates and
operates Joburg Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatre to provide the integrated
management of theatre is seeking a skilled and experienced Building Technician to join the JCT
team.

REMUNERATION : R29 660.58 (Basic Salary, excluding benefits)

Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Recognised Electrical Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal/Heavy Current).
• National Diploma in Electrical/Electrotechnical Engineering or equivalent electrical
qualification.
• Wireman’s License will be an advantage.
• Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience in electrical maintenance.
• Experience in commercial buildings, theatres, entertainment venues, hospitality, public
facilities or other complex building environments will be highly advantageous.
• Experience working with electrical distribution systems, generators, lighting systems and
building services.
• Basic computer literacy
Primary Function
To provide specialised electrical maintenance and technical support across the theatre
buildings, venues and associated facilities. Responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and
continuous operation of electrical infrastructure and building services, with particular
emphasis on maintaining electrical systems that support theatre productions,
performances, rehearsals, events, offices and public areas.
Key Performance Areas:
• Conduct planned, preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical installations and
building electrical infrastructure.
• Inspect, maintain, test and repair electrical distribution boards, switchgear, cabling,
lighting systems, power outlets and associated equipment.
• Diagnose electrical faults and implement appropriate corrective measures.
• Maintain electrical systems serving auditoriums, stages, backstage areas, workshops,
offices, public spaces, foyers and other theatre facilities
• Perform Statutory and Ad hoc inspection of all electrical equipment and power generator
systems and institute necessary action in the event of shortcomings
• Ensure reliable service of the stage technical requirements, inclusive of high voltage
electrical fault detection and fault repair
• Maintain and ensure electrical services, inclusive of fault detection and fault repair in
respect of air-conditioning and electricity
• Diagnose equipment malfunctions and repair and adjust using the necessary test
equipment, instruments and other tools of trade
• Participate in standby, after-hours, weekend and public holiday call-outs, as required by
theatre operational demands.
• Maintain all motors, transformers and electrical controllers attached to large power
systems
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and SHEQ requirements
• Ensure that the services delivered to the building in respect of electricity and air-supply
are according to NOSA standards and maintained according to those standards
• Ensure monthly documentation of maintaining and cleaning of filters, electrical distribution
boards and fan belts of Air Handling Unit 4
• Ensure monthly documentation for the maintaining, cleaning of the LT Room, standby
generator, control panel of the standby generator, checking and filling the diesel fuel to
acceptable levels
• Ensure the documentation of Weekly Maintenance Records
• Ensure that all the electrical systems on all machinery are maintained and comply with
the Machinery’s Act and SANS 10142
• Use necessary computer software to fault find stage machinery control problems
