AUDIOLOGIST: GRADE 1 -2

This position offers an opportunity for a qualified audiologist to join the Limpopo Department of Health, working within a public health setting that serves both adult and paediatric patients. The role is structured as a professional clinical post, graded at either Grade 1 or Grade 2 depending on the candidate’s years of experience after registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. As an audiologist in this department, you will be expected to deliver a full range of audiological services in line with best practice guidelines, while also contributing to clinical research, multidisciplinary teamwork, and the maintenance of quality standards within the unit. The post is suitable for both newly registered practitioners and experienced audiologists, with Grade 1 requiring no prior experience after registration, and Grade 2 requiring a minimum of ten years of appropriate and recognisable experience as an audiologist.

To be considered, applicants must hold qualifications that allow registration with the HPCSA as an Independent Practice Audiologist and must currently be registered in that category. Computer literacy is essential, including proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and virtual meeting platforms. The department is looking for candidates with solid knowledge and practical skill in adult and paediatric hearing screening, diagnostic hearing assessments, hearing aid fittings, vestibular assessment, electrophysiology, and site of lesion testing. A willingness to work after hours, be on call, and perform shift work is a key requirement, as audiological services may be needed outside of normal working hours. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate training in ethics, knowledge of STA guidelines and protocols, the ability to use health information for planning, and the capacity to work under pressure. Familiarity with current health and public service legislation, regulations, and policies is expected, along with sound clinical reasoning in assessment and treatment procedures for specific conditions.

The core duties of the role involve conducting adult and paediatric audiological procedures according to best practice, ensuring that clinical resources are maintained through biological checks and fault reporting, and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while respecting professional boundaries. Supervision of community service therapists and students forms an important part of the role, as does compliance with performance management processes. You will also be expected to participate in departmental team building and projects, adhere to infection control procedures, and assist in maintaining accreditation requirements. Strong communication, report writing, facilitation, liaison, coordination, networking, and decision-making skills are essential, as is project management ability and analytical thinking.
