This is a senior operational management position within the provincial government’s community development structure, offering two posts under the Chief Directorate for District Coordination and Institutional Support Management. The appointments fall within the Directorate covering Bojanala and Dr Kenneth Kaunda Districts, with one post based at Moretele in Bojanala and the other at Maquassi Hills Service Points in Dr Kenneth Kaunda District. As an Assistant Manager Community Development Grade 1, the role is graded in accordance with the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) determination, reflecting its specialist and managerial nature within the broader district coordination and institutional support framework.

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Development, Developmental Studies, or a closely related field. In addition, a minimum of eight years of recognisable experience in community development is required, and this experience must have been obtained after completing the relevant qualification. Computer literacy and a valid driver’s licence are also mandatory. The department is looking for candidates who demonstrate knowledge of human behaviour and social systems, a sound grasp of community dynamics, and the ability to understand and implement community development programmes and legislation. Strong networking and partnership-building skills are essential, as is experience in community development research. The ideal candidate will also bring competencies in planning and organising, written and verbal communication, project and financial management, team leadership, people management, conflict management, and the capacity to stay current with new developments in community development to enhance service delivery. A thorough knowledge of policies and legislative mandates affecting community development is expected.

The core duties of the post revolve around coordinating the identification, facilitation, and implementation of integrated development interventions and programmes. This is done in partnership with relevant stakeholders, with a strong emphasis on the effective and economic utilisation of resources. The Assistant Manager will conduct research linked to community development work, interpret and implement relevant policies and legislation, and provide guidance to colleagues and partners. Managing relationships with all role players, both internal and external, is a key responsibility, as is the monitoring and evaluation of programmes to assess impact and inform future action. The post also entails managing human, financial, and asset resources, as well as ensuring that sound partnership mobilisation systems are in place. This makes the role a blend of strategic planning, community engagement, and operational management, all aimed at strengthening service delivery to communities in the two districts.

This is a demanding but rewarding opportunity for an experienced community development professional ready to take on managerial responsibility. The position carries an OSD-determined salary and requires a candidate who is not only academically qualified and experienced, but also capable of working collaboratively across sectors and with communities themselves. As the posts are based in different service points, applicants should be clear about the specific district they are interested in, as enquiries are handled separately for Bojanala and Dr Kenneth Kaunda Districts. This role is particularly suited to individuals who combine field-level knowledge of community dynamics with strong administrative, financial, and leadership skills, and who are committed to driving integrated, evidence-based development programmes within a government setting.
