This Assistant Director Information Management post sits within the Chief Directorate for Districts and Institutional Support Management, in the Bojanala District Office of the North West Provincial Department of Social Development. It is a supervisory role dedicated to ensuring that the district’s information environment supports effective planning, monitoring and service delivery. The successful candidate will develop and implement the district’s Information Management Operational Plan, and in doing so will align data processes with the strategic objectives of the Department and with broader Public Service policy frameworks. A core element of the work is monitoring and evaluating district performance information against set targets, which involves capturing, analysing and collating data coming from service points and various programmes. This information must then be turned into clear quarterly and annual reports for management and provincial decision-makers)Skip over. The role also requires coordinating and facilitating information management training, providing direct support to data capturers at service points and institutions, and conducting quarterly quality data audits at public service points to ensure the integrity and reliability of records. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the smooth implementation of key digital systems, namely the Social Development Information Management System, NISIS, and the Performance Information Management System. This is not simply a technical role; it carries management responsibility for the information management budget and for the human and other resources assigned to the unit.

To be eligible, candidates must hold a National Diploma, B.Tech or Bachelor’s degree at NQF level 6 or 7 in Information Management, Information Science or Information Technology, with a statistical background. Knowledge of and experience in using statistical software packages is an essential requirement, as is at least three to five years of work experience in an information management environment, of which no less than two years must be at a supervisory level. The competency profile for the post includes extensive knowledge of relevant Public Service policies and legislation, well-developed report-writing and presentation skills, and computer literacy in Excel and PowerPoint. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed, along with the capacity to work effectively under pressure and a genuine willingness to travel to service points and institutions. A valid driver’s licence is also a prerequisite for the position.

This is a demanding operational role that calls for a blend of strategic thinking, analytical rigour and practical leadership. The information produced and managed by the Assistant Director is vital for district performance monitoring, for accountability to provincial structures, and for the continuous improvement of social development services. Because the post is based at the district office but also involves travelling to public service points, flexibility and reliable transport are important. Applicants should be prepared to take ownership of the district’s information management function, to lead a small team of data capturers and support staff, and to work collaboratively with programme managers and service providers. Those interested in applying must follow the official application procedures and produce all required documents, as specified in the full vacancy advertisement. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced information management professional who is ready to move into a district-level leadership position within the public sector.
