This position offers an opportunity to serve as Assistant Director for Supply Chain Compliance within the Head Office in Polokwane, operating at a supervisory and junior management level. The role is central to strengthening supply chain management practices across the department, with a strong emphasis on capacity building, contract oversight, and compliance with legislative frameworks. The successful candidate will be expected to identify capacity gaps through monitoring policy implementation and then provide targeted training and support to supply chain practitioners, bid specification committees, evaluation and adjudication committees, departmental end users, and project managers. This includes facilitating accredited supply chain management courses and supporting institutional bid committee structures, ensuring that all role players understand and apply relevant policies correctly.
The post requires a Grade 12 certificate together with an appropriate qualification at NQF level 6 in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Purchasing Management, or an equivalent recognised field. Candidates must have at least three years of relevant experience at supervisory or junior management level, and must hold a valid motor vehicle driver’s licence, although persons with disabilities are exempt from this requirement. A thorough working knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act, Public Service Regulations, departmental policies and procedures, and the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act is essential. Strong leadership, financial reporting, communication, conflict management, project management, and problem-solving skills are also required to succeed in this environment.
The duties are broad and include managing departmental contracts, providing regular status and progress reports to management that highlight trends, risks, deviations, delays, and problems, and making appropriate recommendations for contract management improvement. The Assistant Director will also manage financial and administrative systems, ensure compliance with relevant policies, oversee budget planning and spending processes, and manage the performance and development of staff. Compiling and submitting quarterly and annual reports forms a key part of the accountability framework. The role therefore demands both strategic oversight and hands-on operational management.
Applicants should note that this is a permanent post graded at level 09, and the selection process will be guided by the department’s Employment Equity Plan. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to security clearance, qualification verification, and personnel suitability checks, and will be required to undertake pre-entry assessments, including a practical exercise and an integrity assessment. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority. Applications must be submitted through the departmental e-recruitment system, accompanied by a completed Z83 form and a comprehensive CV, with certified documents required only at interview stage. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and those who do not receive feedback within three months of the closing date should regard their application as unsuccessful.
