The Central Johannesburg TVET College is seeking an Assistant Director for Student Registration and Management Information System, based at its Central Office. This is a re-advertisement, and candidates who applied previously are encouraged to re-apply if they remain interested. The role sits at the heart of the college’s administrative and academic data operations, combining managerial oversight with hands-on technical responsibility for the systems that support student enrolment, examination statistics, and reporting to the Department of Higher Education and Training. It is a demanding position that requires both leadership and a deep working knowledge of information management within the TVET sector.

Applicants must hold a Senior Certificate, Grade 12, or NCV Level 4 qualification, together with a National Diploma at NQF level 7 or a degree in Information Management, Computing, or a related Information Technology and Communication field. An Honours degree or postgraduate diploma in ICT will be an added advantage. The ideal candidate will have between three and five years of supervisory experience at salary level 8 within Information Technology or a relevant environment. A thorough understanding of the policy and governance framework for TVET Colleges is essential, including knowledge of the TVETMIS system, annual reporting requirements for higher education institutions, and the application of office management prescripts. Familiarity with systems such as ADAPTIT, COLTECH, and the data warehouse is also required. The role demands strong administrative, planning, organisational, report-writing, communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, computer literacy, client-oriented, project management, team leadership, and people management skills. Personal attributes such as client service focus, integrity, commitment, proactivity, and loyalty are equally important.

The core duties involve managing the TVETMIS system, capturing and extracting data, and preparing the system for enrolment periods. The post holder will control the quality of captured data, report errors, maintain the college’s TVETMIS system, and manage student data. Using various tools, they will extract data to facilitate statistical reporting and interact with the service provider for system upgrades and assistance. Responsibilities also include maintaining student registration data, compiling reports for management, submitting monthly skills and learnership reports, and producing quarterly academic examination and staff statistics for management and DHET. The Assistant Director will compile monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as requested, and will maintain, capture, and validate inputs on the ITS student and related systems. They will set up the student system for registration, ensuring credibility and reliability, and maintain ADAPTIT and other related systems. Monitoring capturing, quality control, validation, running procedures, creating files, and ensuring entries are sent to DHET head office are also key tasks. In addition, the role involves managing human, physical, and financial resources, rendering management services to staff, ensuring performance agreements are completed by all employees in the unit, and supervising staff.

This post is subject to the college’s employment equity and affirmative action commitments, with preference given to candidates who promote representativity in terms of race, gender, and disability. Shortlisted candidates will undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability, and an integrity assessment. The successful candidate will be required to sign an annual performance agreement, disclose financial interests, and undergo security clearance, as well as personnel suitability checks including criminal record, citizenship, qualification, and previous employment verification. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA. Candidates are responsible for their own travel and accommodation, and the college reserves the right not to make an appointment.
