This is a re-advertised senior administrative support position within the Central Johannesburg TVET College, based at the Central Office and reporting directly to the Office of the Principal. The role is graded at a senior administrative level within the public sector, offering the standard benefits associated with such posts. The successful candidate will act as the principal’s office manager, serving as the central coordination point for all executive, secretarial, logistical, and strategic support functions that keep the principal’s office and the college’s governance structures operating smoothly. This is a demanding, high-trust role that requires a deep understanding of the post-school education and training (PSET) environment, particularly the administration of TVET and CET colleges, as well as a firm grasp of public service legislation and corporate governance.
Applicants must hold a Matric certificate or equivalent, along with a recognised National Diploma at NQF level 6 in Office Management and Technology, Public Management, Law, Social Science, or a closely related field. A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline will be an advantage. The role requires three to five years of relevant administrative experience, with practical exposure to office management and public management, as well as demonstrated experience in developing policies and implementation strategies. A thorough working knowledge of the Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act, Employment Equity Act, and other related legislation is essential, as is an understanding of cost centre budgeting, expenditure control, and cash flow management. Candidates must also possess a valid driver’s licence. Knowledge of the higher education sector and TVET/CET administration will be an added advantage.
The core duties are extensive and centre on providing executive and administrative support to the principal. This includes rendering secretariat services to the College Council, its committees, the Academic Board, senior management, and external stakeholders. The office manager will arrange all meetings, including sub-committees, council, EXCO, and academic board sessions, and will be responsible for developing agendas, writing minutes, and managing records. The role also involves overseeing logistics within the principal’s office, maintaining stock of standard forms and stationery, and coordinating the décor, layout, food service, invitations, and media protocol for college-hosted functions. In addition, the position entails strategic management, monitoring and evaluation services, as well as the management of all human, financial, and other resources within the unit. This includes supervising staff, ensuring that all employees in the unit complete performance agreements, and supporting training interventions. The office manager must also provide support for training initiatives and ensure that all administrative processes align with college policies and legislative requirements.
The college is committed to employment equity and affirmative action, with preference given to candidates whose appointment promotes representativity in terms of race, gender, and disability, in line with the departmental policy and applicable equity targets. All shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise to test technical and generic suitability for the post, and an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment. These assessments will be scored as part of the interview process. The successful candidate will be required to sign an annual performance agreement, disclose financial interests, and be subjected to security clearance and personnel suitability checks, including criminal record, citizenship, qualification, and employment verification. Applicants are reminded that this is a re-advertisement, and those who applied previously are encouraged to re-apply if still interested. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA. Only shortlisted candidates will need to submit certified documents and service letters from previous employers. The college reserves the right not to make an appointment, and candidates who have not been contacted within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. Due to financial constraints, candidates are responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements for interviews and assessments.
