This permanent position as Assistant Director for Marketing and Communication Services is based at the Central Office of Goldfields TVET College in the Free State province, operating within the broader Higher Education sector. The role is an OSD-graded post that places the incumbent at the heart of the college’s public image, strategic communication efforts, and stakeholder engagement. Reporting within a unit dedicated to marketing and communication, the Assistant Director is expected to provide leadership and operational oversight, ensuring that the college’s brand, publications, events, and media relations are managed professionally and in alignment with the policies and governance frameworks that regulate TVET colleges and higher education institutions more broadly.
Candidates must hold a Senior Certificate or Grade 12, or an NCV Level 4 certificate, combined with a three-year National Diploma at NQF Level 6 or a Bachelor’s degree at NQF Level 7 in Marketing, Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, or a closely related field. A minimum of three to five years of supervisory experience in a communication-related environment is required, along with a valid driver’s licence. The ideal applicant will possess a thorough knowledge of TVET college policies and governance, including annual reporting requirements for higher education institutions, a solid understanding of performance management development systems, and familiarity with TVET administration and the legislation governing the higher education sector. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, problem-solving skills, team leadership, people and financial management, project management, planning and organising, report writing, client orientation, research skills, and excellent verbal and written communication at all organisational levels are essential.
The duties are wide-ranging and centre on managing and coordinating marketing, promotion, and branding. This includes developing and managing the college’s brand identity, overseeing all signage and document branding such as letterheads and certificates, and formulating and implementing the college’s branding strategy. The role also involves producing college publications like banners, information brochures, annual reports, pamphlets, and programme information. Public relations and media liaison form a significant part of the work, requiring the management of community liaison, coordination of college events such as exhibitions, prize-giving ceremonies, official functions, and special marketing events, as well as handling media queries and responses. The incumbent must track positive and negative stories about the college and forward them to relevant managers, regularly communicate college campaigns on social media and online platforms, and maintain the content, design, and layout of the college website. Additionally, the role includes providing photographic services, writing articles for the college’s electronic newsletter, acting as sub-editor, gathering and verifying articles from colleagues, and managing the human, financial, and other resources of the unit, including staff performance and development.
Applicants should note that the selection process involves a vetting procedure covering criminal records, citizenship, credit records, qualifications, and employment verification. Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo two pre-entry assessments, one practical exercise and one integrity assessment, with the results scored as part of the interview process. Preference will be given to candidates from designated groups with regard to race, gender, and disability, as the college is an equal opportunity employer. Applications must be submitted using the prescribed Z83 form accompanied by a comprehensive CV with three contactable referees, and certified copies of qualifications and identity documents are required at the interview stage. The college reserves the right not to make an appointment, and candidates who do not receive feedback within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. All costs incurred for application and interviews are borne by the applicant.
