This position within the Western Cape Mobility Department offers a challenging opportunity for a seasoned professional to oversee the full spectrum of logistics and movable asset management for the provincial government. As an Assistant Director, you will be responsible for ensuring that the department’s physical resources are acquired, maintained, tracked, and disposed of in a manner that is compliant with all relevant legislation and best practices. The role sits within a dynamic public-sector environment where accountability, transparency, and efficient use of state resources are paramount, and you will be expected to provide strategic and operational leadership to a team while directly managing high-risk processes.
To be considered for this post, you must hold an appropriate three-year tertiary qualification, such as a bachelor’s degree or higher, in Supply Chain Management or Financial Management. In addition, you need at least three years of practical experience in logistics or asset management, specifically at a supervisory level, which demonstrates your ability to lead staff and manage complex workflows. A valid Code B driving licence is required, although an alternative mode of transport will be accepted for candidates with disabilities. Your technical knowledge should cover the interpretation and implementation of legislation, regulatory frameworks, and policies relevant to logistics and asset management, as well as the use of information systems to support decision-making. You must be adept at developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, plans, and reports, and at administering processes such as maintaining a movable asset register and managing financial transactions in line with the Public Finance Management Act, National Treasury Regulations, and Provincial Treasury Instructions.
Your core duties will involve the day-to-day administration of movable assets, including their safekeeping, distribution, and eventual disposal, all coordinated with due diligence and proper documentation. You will also manage logistics, consumables, and inventory, ensuring that stock levels are optimal and that procurement and issuance follow approved procedures. A significant part of your role will be reporting on asset and logistics performance to senior management, using data to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements. Managerial functions will include supervising staff, allocating work, and ensuring that your team meets performance targets and adheres to ethical standards.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend interviews and must submit vetting and supporting documentation within a specified timeframe. Two pre-entry assessments will be conducted: a practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability, and an integrity assessment on ethical conduct. The selection process will align with the department’s employment equity targets, and by applying you consent to reference checks with previous employers, including enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. This is a permanent, level 09 position within the Western Cape Government, offering a competitive salary and the chance to contribute to the efficient functioning of public services. Ensure you apply online before the closing date, as late submissions will not be accepted.
