Strong skills in office management, strategic capability, leadership, problem solving, decision making, team leadership, creativity, customer focus, communication, computer literacy, facilitation, people management, planning, organising, and conflict management are all essential.

The main duties of the position are broad and cover several key areas. In terms of landscaping, the Assistant Director will develop landscaping plans for the district, monitor the landscaping budget, manage the procurement of protective clothing, equipment, and materials, arrange for repairs and servicing of landscaping equipment, allocate groundsmen to the district office and cost centres, monitor occupational health and safety compliance, and oversee Expanded Public Works Programme projects related to landscaping. Similarly, for cleaning services, the incumbent will develop cleaning plans, monitor the cleaning budget, manage procurement of cleaning supplies and equipment, oversee repairs and servicing, manage the distribution of cleaning materials and chemicals, allocate cleaners, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards, as well as monitor EPWP cleaning projects.

The role also involves providing support to cost centres by ensuring cleaning and landscaping services are delivered, facilitating human resource and auxiliary matters, issuing government vehicles, safekeeping of keys and fuel cards, facilitating exemptions to drive after working hours, and reporting accidents. Waste management is another core responsibility, including developing a waste management plan, facilitating the sorting and shredding of waste paper, liaising with service providers for collection, and receiving monthly income reports generated through waste management. Finally, the Assistant Director must monitor and report on equipment utilisation, evaluate staff performance, ensure staff capacity development, maintain employee motivation and a culture of performance management, manage discipline, provide job descriptions to subordinates, and manage leave matters within the division.

This is a demanding position that requires a proactive and organised individual who can work independently and manage multiple priorities. Successful candidates will be subjected to personnel suitability checks, including criminal record, citizenship, financial and asset record checks, as well as verification of qualifications and employment history. Security clearance may also be required. Applications are only accepted on the prescribed Z83 form accompanied by a CV, with all other documents required only from shortlisted candidates.
