This position, based at the Mopani District Municipality Office in Limpopo, is a supervisory and coordination role within the Department of Home Affairs, focused on ensuring that district-level operations run efficiently and in line with national legislative and regulatory frameworks. As an Assistant Director for District Coordination, the incumbent acts as a central link between the district manager, local managers, and various internal and external stakeholders. The role is particularly concerned with aligning district plans with broader departmental strategies, improving service delivery, and ensuring that all administrative, financial, and operational processes are compliant with the Public Finance Management Act, Treasury regulations, and the Public Service Regulations. The post is graded at level 09 and forms part of the department’s district coordination structure, requiring a candidate who can provide leadership, manage resources, and drive business transformation at a local government level.

To be considered for this role, applicants must hold an undergraduate qualification in Public Management, Administration, Operations Management, or a related field at NQF level 6, recognised by SAQA. A minimum of three years’ experience as a Senior Administrative Officer is required, along with proven experience in coordination. The role demands a solid working knowledge of Civic Services and Immigration Acts, as well as an understanding of departmental legislation and the Human Resources Regulatory Framework. Candidates must also possess a valid driver’s licence and be willing to travel and work extended hours when necessary. The required competencies are broad and include leadership, client orientation, people management, project management, conflict management, decision-making, presentation skills, problem-solving, business report writing, networking, planning, organising, and strong coordination skills. Computer literacy and excellent communication skills are essential, as are personal attributes such as honesty, integrity, accountability, and a patriotic commitment to public service.

The duties attached to this position are extensive and centre on the smooth running of district operations. The successful candidate will facilitate and coordinate district activities to enhance service delivery, monitor the district’s budget, and develop and implement operational plans. They will be responsible for tracking district performance, ensuring that operations run smoothly, and reporting progress timeously to the line manager. The role involves communicating local managers’ credential responsibilities, programme requirements, and expectations from the district manager, as well as coordinating the district calendar, meetings, special events, and other scheduled activities. The Assistant Director will collaborate with district staff to align plans and strategies, lead the district-level team, and resolve concerns or problems as they arise. Building relationships with district government, civil society, and the private sector is also a key responsibility, including developing annual plans for activities under each component and leading communication and stakeholder engagement efforts. Financial and operational reports must be submitted on time, and the incumbent will consolidate information on all district operations to improve service delivery. Additional duties include ensuring successful business transformation, implementing effective risk and compliance management practices, managing human, physical, and financial resources within the unit, and coaching staff on best practices and regulatory compliance.

This is a demanding but rewarding position for an experienced administrative professional seeking to make a meaningful impact on service delivery in the Limpopo district. The role offers the opportunity to work at a strategic level within a government department, coordinating multiple stakeholders and driving performance improvements. Interested applicants should ensure they meet all the qualification and experience requirements, as well as the competency and personal suitability criteria, before applying. The department places a strong emphasis on accountability, integrity, and a client-focused approach to public service. Given the nature of the work, candidates must be prepared to operate in a dynamic environment where deadlines, reporting, and stakeholder engagement are routine. The position is advertised as part of a broader public service vacancy circular, and all applications must be submitted in accordance with the prescribed directions for applicants.
