The Assistant Director: Curriculum Implementation Services position at False Bay TVET College’s Westlake Campus is a senior academic leadership role within the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) environment. The incumbent will be responsible for leading and managing the Online Learning department and its staff, ensuring that the college’s strategic plan is supported through effective curriculum delivery and academic administration. Reporting within the college’s curriculum implementation services unit, the role is central to coordinating the academic year, managing assessment processes, and driving quality teaching and learning across the institution, particularly in the online learning space.
Candidates must hold a Grade 12 or Matric certificate, as well as a recognised National Diploma at NQF Level 6 in Education or a related qualification. A minimum of three to five years of teaching experience is required, alongside at least three years of supervisory experience. Registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE), either provisionally or fully, is essential. Applicants also need computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and a valid driver’s licence. The role demands a thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and frameworks, including the PSET and CET Act, the Skills Development Act, Public Service Regulations and the Public Service Act, the Labour Relations Act, the Education Act, and a sound understanding of the public TVET sector and the higher education sector.
The core duties of the post are wide-ranging and include preparing for the academic year, semester, or trimester, and coordinating the implementation of the academic year plan and assessment plan. The successful candidate will ensure that all resources, equipment, and consumables are available at the start of the academic year, coordinate student orientation, and manage recruitment and career guidance support. They will strategically set academic targets, coordinate pre-assessment, moderation, and post-assessment moderation activities, and monitor the quality of teaching and learning through online classroom visits. Regular reporting on target results is required on a quarterly basis. The role also involves planning and implementing academic interventions, ensuring compliance with all teaching and learning policies, and initiating disciplinary action when necessary. In addition, the Assistant Director will oversee curriculum management and administration, academic management services, and provide guidance for improving curriculum content and delivery based on engagement with public and private industry stakeholders. The position includes managing the content development of the online platform, providing learning materials, and managing the human, financial, and other resources of the unit.
This is a senior public service post within the college, and applicants should note that the advertised vacancy is part of a broader circular. Those interested must submit a fully signed Z83 form and a detailed curriculum vitae; certified copies of qualifications are only required from shortlisted candidates. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The department reserves the right not to fill the post, and the successful candidate will be subjected to personnel suitability checks and vetting procedures. Shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise to determine technical and generic suitability, and an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment. These exercises are scored as an additional criterion during the interview process. Correspondence is limited to shortlisted candidates, and applicants who do not receive an interview invitation within three months of the closing date should regard their application as unsuccessful. Ensure that the correct reference number is used, as the department will not be liable for incorrect reference numbers on applications. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced education professional to contribute to curriculum innovation and academic leadership within a dynamic TVET college.
