This position is for an Assistant Director of Curriculum Implementation, focusing on the National Curriculum (Vocational) and occupational qualifications, based at the Head Office of a public TVET college. The role sits at a senior management level within the academic affairs unit, where the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that curriculum delivery across all college sites is aligned with national policies and directives. It involves significant coordination with internal academic managers, lecturers, and external bodies such as SAQA, alongside engagement with industry stakeholders to keep programmes relevant and responsive to labour market needs. The post is a critical part of the college’s academic leadership, blending strategic policy oversight with operational support for teaching and learning.
Candidates must have a National Senior Certificate or Grade 12, combined with a recognised Degree or Diploma in Education. At least seven years of working experience in the TVET sector is required, three of which must have been at a managerial level. Registration with SACE is mandatory, as are computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook, and a valid driver’s licence. The ideal candidate will bring sound knowledge of the PSETA and CET Acts, the Skills Development Act, Public Service Regulations and Act, the Labour Relations Act, and the broader regulatory and legislative framework governing public TVET institutions. Familiarity with the Higher Education sector and the Education Act is also expected. Key competencies include planning and organising, financial management, report writing, communication and interpersonal skills, problem solving, analytical thinking, client orientation, project management, team leadership and people management.
In terms of duties, the Assistant Director will oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of academic and curriculum policies to ensure they align with national directives. This includes supporting the introduction of new programmes and qualifications, managing revisions to the National Curriculum (Vocational), and coordinating policy updates with SAQA. The role also involves managing the review and implementation of ICASS guidelines for all assessments, developing classroom management policies, and monitoring the conduct of assessments across programmes, with comprehensive reports provided to college executive management and oversight bodies. The post holder must ensure coordinated and consistent curriculum delivery across all college delivery sites, promoting best-practice teaching alongside campus managers. Responsibilities extend to academic management services such as ongoing lecturer support, planning for quality teaching and learning, assisting with student admissions, and ensuring enrolment targets are met. The role also includes facilitating career guidance, engaging with public and private industry stakeholders to improve curriculum content, analysing academic results, developing intervention plans for critical subjects, coordinating classroom visits to support ICASS and ISAT compliance, and overseeing the provision of learning materials by identifying resource requirements and managing their dissemination. Effective management of all human, financial, and physical resources within the unit is a core part of the position.
This is an employment equity position, and the employer is an equal opportunity institution that reserves the right not to appoint. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise measuring technical and generic suitability, and an integrity or ethical conduct assessment. Recommended candidates must undergo a personnel suitability check covering criminal records, citizenship, financial records, qualification verification and previous employment verification. Late applications are not accepted, and applicants who do not receive feedback within three months of the closing date should consider their applications unsuccessful. Certified copies of required documents will only be requested from shortlisted candidates before the interview.
