This position of Assistant Director for Auxiliary Services is situated within the Department of Water and Sanitation's Infrastructure Management branch, specifically under the Central Operation of Water Resource Infrastructure Operations and Maintenance, within the Operations Central Division's General Administration unit. Based in Pretoria, the role is a supervisory and managerial post that oversees the full spectrum of administrative support functions for the Directorate and its Area Offices. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that all corporate services operate efficiently, compliantly, and in alignment with public service regulations.

To be considered, applicants must hold a relevant NQF Level 6 qualification in Administration, Public Management, or Public Administration, coupled with five years of experience in an administrative environment, of which at least three years must have been in a supervisory capacity. A valid, unexpired driver's licence is essential, as is computer literacy in the MS Office suite. The role demands a thorough working knowledge of public service legislation, regulations, and directives, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact at all levels. The ability to work independently, lead a team, plan, organise, and execute tasks effectively, and produce quality work under pressure is critical. Excellent report-writing skills, problem-solving abilities, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the capacity to handle confidential information are also required.

The core duties are comprehensive. The Assistant Director will manage key administrative areas, including corporate travel arrangements, facilities and support services, safety and security compliance, records and document management, and human resource and performance management. A significant part of the role involves monitoring compliance with national and departmental legislation regarding travel, transport, facilities, records, telecommunications, and safety. The post also entails managing service provider contracts, overseeing payments, accounts, debt recovery, query resolution, and reconciliation of accounts, as well as preparing quarterly reports on contract performance. The incumbent will maintain accurate databases, provide inputs to monthly and annual spending plans, and contribute to the development and review of budgets and business plans. Developing, maintaining, and implementing standard operating procedures for these administrative functions is a key responsibility. Additionally, the role requires advising management and officials on policies and procedures, compiling submissions and memoranda, submitting monthly operational reports, and coordinating the activities of administrative support personnel.

Notably, candidates may be subjected to a skills and knowledge test as part of the selection process. It is also important to be aware that the office is transitioning to the South African National Water Resources Infrastructure Agency (SANWRIA), which may affect future employment conditions. Applications are submitted online through the department's e-recruitment portal, and enquiries are directed to the contact person listed in the advertisement.
