Requirements
We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking and a committed individual who meets the following requirements: A completed BA Law, LLB degree or equivalent and relevant to this role, such as CIS diploma. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a company secretary or corporate governance environment. Proven working knowledge of the PFMA, Treasury Regulations and corporate governance Good coordination and interpersonal skills. Strong administrative capabilities and computer literacy. Proven experience in information monitoring. Flexibility to work some irregular hours as required. Other considerations: Practical work exposure to the area of expertise will be further considered to balance against other requirements. Experience working in a regulatory authority environment or similar may be an added advantage. Duties
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced corporate governance professional to contribute meaningfully to the integrity, accountability, and strategic governance of one of South Africa’s key regulatory institutions. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the Company Secretary and the Commission’s governance structures through the advancement of sound corporate governance practices, regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement, ethics management, and effective committee administration.A starting annual total Cost to Company package of R 1 092 619,38 (negotiable commensurate with experience)Please note this position is available on a five (5) year fixed-term contract, renewable.The Role:To provide strategic and professional support to the Company Secretary in advancing the governance mandate of the Commissioner, the Commission, and EXCO. The role is responsible for supporting sound corporate governance practices across the organisation through monitoring governance developments, promoting compliance, coordinating governance structures and meetings, maintaining action plans, supporting risk and ethics management processes, and fostering effective stakeholder relationships.Key Accountabilities:The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include: Managing relevant meetings, developing and maintaining plans, managing ethics and building effective stakeholder relationships. Assist the Company Secretary to strategically direct, manage and support the Commissioner's Office. Strategically participate in designated Committees of the Commission. Assist in strategically identifying corporate governance related projects. Assist the Company Secretary to ensure that the Competition Commission complies with corporate governance best practice. Oversee the consistent compliance of corporate governance principles and practices by Exco and the Commission; and manage consequences of non-compliance. Identification, development, implementation, and monitoring strategies on corporate governance. Assist the Company Secretary in managing the audit process. Conduct general administration for the Commission's committees. Organise designated meetings and take minutes. Assist the Company Secretary to manage the risks of the Commission in line with leading practice. Assist the Company Secretary with various administrative functions to ensure effective and timely deliverables are met. Ensuring clear drafting, giving of unambiguous guidance and the preparation of documentation designed to be user-friendly to a wide and varied audience. Providing administrative assistance where needed.
