This is a re-advertised opportunity for two qualified plumbers to join the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure as Artisan Production Grade A within the Nkangala District, with one post based at Siyabuswa and the other at eMalahleni. The positions are graded under the Occupation Specific Dispensation, reflecting a structured career path for artisan trades. Successful appointees will be responsible for the full spectrum of plumbing maintenance on departmental infrastructure, ensuring that buildings, facilities and related systems remain functional, safe and compliant with public service standards. The role is hands-on and supervisory in equal measure, requiring both technical expertise and the ability to guide and mentor junior staff.

Applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate as well as an appropriate Trade Test certificate, and must have relevant experience as a Tradesman Aid. Practical knowledge of legislative prescripts governing the Public Service, occupational health and safety requirements, quality control procedures and record keeping is essential. Computer literacy and strong verbal and written communication skills are also required. Candidates must be willing to work overtime and perform standby duties, as plumbing emergencies and after-hours maintenance needs are an expected part of the role.

The core duties involve executing and managing plumbing maintenance across departmental infrastructure, producing objects and components using materials and equipment in line with job specifications and recognised standards, and ensuring quality assurance of all production outputs. The plumber will inspect equipment and facilities for technical faults, repair and service them according to set standards and schedules, and compile and submit reports on work completed. The role also includes providing inputs to the operational plan, maintaining accurate job records, and supervising and mentoring staff under their direction. This is therefore a position for someone who can work independently, take responsibility for quality outcomes, and contribute to the broader planning of maintenance activities.

Shortlisted candidates should be aware of several important conditions. Certified documents will only be required from those invited for interviews, and foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA with proof submitted if shortlisted. Applicants must disclose any business interests with organs of state and any additional remunerative work outside their official duties. The selection process may include practical exercises, integrity assessments, personnel suitability checks covering criminal records, citizenship, financial standing, qualifications and employment references. Successful candidates will be required to enter into an annual performance agreement and disclose their financial interests annually. The department reserves the right not to fill the posts, and only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. If no feedback is received within three months after the closing date, applicants should consider their applications unsuccessful. Applications are only accepted through the provincial e-recruitment portal, and no manual, emailed or faxed submissions will be considered.
