This position offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the stability and integrity of South Africa’s financial system. As an Analyst within the Supervision: Banks and Payment Providers department, the successful candidate will play a key role in the ongoing oversight of banks and payment service providers, ensuring that these institutions operate in a sound and efficient manner while protecting the interests of consumers. The role sits within the Financial Sector Conduct Authority, a regulator tasked with maintaining a robust regulatory environment. Reporting to the Manager: Banks and Payment Providers, the analyst will work as part of a permanent, skilled team based in Pretoria, with a strong focus on risk-based supervision and compliance monitoring.

The core responsibilities are varied and demand a solid understanding of the financial services landscape. The analyst will monitor compliance with relevant legislation, analyse financial statements and compliance reports submitted by banks and payment providers, and identify emerging trends in the financial sector that could affect the authority’s regulatory objectives. A significant part of the work involves conducting both on-site and off-site inspections in line with the risk-based supervision approach, and reporting on the outcomes of these inspections. The role also requires ongoing liaison with industry stakeholders, as well as performing administrative and other activities related to the supervision of banks and payment providers. This is not a purely desk-based role; it requires active engagement with regulated entities and a proactive approach to identifying risks and ensuring adherence to legal frameworks.

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Law, Banking, or another relevant discipline, coupled with at least two to three years of working experience within the financial services industry. A good working knowledge of and exposure to the financial sector is essential, as is a clear understanding of the Banks Act of 1990 and the Financial Sector Regulation Act. Beyond formal qualifications, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong problem analysis and solving abilities, sound judgement, and excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to gather and interpret information effectively, work collaboratively within a team, and display emotional intelligence in dealing with stakeholders is also important. Familiarity with a workflow system will be a strong recommendation, and good computer skills are required.

The Financial Sector Conduct Authority is committed to increasing the representation of marginalised groups in line with its Employment Equity Plan, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. It is worth noting that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and the authority reserves the right not to make an appointment if no suitable candidate is identified. This is a meaningful role for a professional who is passionate about financial regulation and consumer protection, offering the chance to make a tangible impact on the supervision of key financial institutions in South Africa.
