Job Description
Knowledge of extension methodology; Compulsory
registration with Knowledge of project planning and implementation process,
communication skills and report writing. Must be computer literate, Good
Communication and organizational skills. Valid driver's license.
Requirements
Grade 12 plus a recognised 4-year BSc Degree in
Agriculture or Post Graduate Diploma in Agriculture, majoring in crop/plant
production (NQF Level 8). A
Minimum of 2 years working experience in extension and advisory services.
Registered with a Professional Council (SACNASP).
Duties
Render general agricultural advice on crop production and
irrigation to farmers to ensure optimal production. Advise on efficient methods
and utilization of resources like soil and water. Supervise officials in the
municipality, coordinate other departmental activities/ programme in the
municipality, Provide support to farmers through CASP, Land Care,
ILLIMA/LETSEMA, etc. in terms of planning, implementation and aftercare
support. Promote the implementation of best farming practices and latest
technologies. Give practical advice to farmers Coordination of agricultural
activities Transfer of farming skills by focusing on farms, feedlots and
abattoirs / slaughtering facilities. Undertake newly assigned activities under
the guidance of senior staff members. Keep abreast of applicable prescripts,
policies, procedures, technologies and new developments to be able to render an
efficient and effective Extension Service. Establish and enhance the
relationship with clients and stakeholders. Perform administrative and related
functions. Keep farmers' database up to date. Compile and submit monthly and
quarterly reports. Keep up to date with applicable policies, procedures,
technologies and new developments to be able to render an efficient and
effective extension service.
More Information
Only shortlisted
candidates will be required to submit certified documents. Foreign
qualifications must be accompanied by an evaluation certificate from the South
African Qualification Authority (SAQA). Emailed applications will not be
considered. All shortlisted candidates, including the SMS, shall undertake two
pre-entry assessments. One will be a practical exercise to determine a
candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements
and the other will be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment. Shortlisted
candidates will be required to be available for assessments and interviews at a
date and time to be determine by the Department. The first two recommended
candidates for Deputy Directors posts will be subjected to competency
assessment. All shortlisted
candidates for SMS posts will be subjected to a technical exercise and
interview. Following the technical
exercise and interview, a maximum of three (3) SMS candidates will undergo
psychometric assessments to assess cognitive capabilities, behavioral
preferences, emotional intelligence, and integrity.

be expected to enter into an employment contract and a performance agreement
within 3 months of appointment. Failure to comply with the above instructions
