This position offers an opportunity to serve as an Administrative Officer for Information Management within the Metro Rural Services directorate, stationed at Worcester Regional Hospital. The role is central to ensuring that healthcare data and information systems operate accurately, securely, and efficiently within a public health provider environment. As part of a regional hospital team, the officer will act as a bridge between clinical operations, administrative decision-making, and the technical systems that capture, store, and report on patient and service data.

Candidates must hold an appropriate National Diploma at NQF6 level or an equivalent qualification, combined with relevant experience in information management specifically within a health provider setting. A valid driver’s licence is an inherent requirement, as is a willingness to travel and to work overtime when necessary. The role demands a solid working knowledge of health information systems such as SINJANI, Clinicom, ECCR, Hectis and SPV, along with advanced computer literacy in MS Windows applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. The successful applicant will be a logical thinker with strong attention to detail, capable of producing accurate and reliable outputs under pressure and within deadlines.

The duties are multifaceted. In data management and quality assurance, the officer ensures healthcare data is accurate, compliant and meets prescribed standards through validation, auditing, reporting and ongoing quality improvement support for data users. In monitoring and evaluation, the role involves analysing health data, tracking performance and providing evidence to support informed decisions and quality initiatives. Information systems management requires overseeing hospital information systems by supporting users, monitoring data quality, controlling access and ensuring compliance with governance frameworks. The position also provides IT support and coordination, managing helpdesk requests, maintaining IT assets, and supporting system continuity and compliance. Supervisory responsibilities are included: the officer supervises staff performance and development, ensures effective operations in the unit, and adheres to human resources policies. Additionally, the officer supports the supervisor by acting in that capacity when required and coordinates with stakeholders to maintain seamless service delivery.

This is a graded public service post within the Western Cape Department of Health, advertised through a standard circular process. As with all such vacancies, no payment of any kind is required when applying. The role is based at Worcester Regional Hospital and falls under the Metro Rural Services component, meaning it supports health facilities beyond the immediate hospital catchment area. This is a demanding but rewarding position for an information management professional committed to improving health service delivery through reliable data and well-managed systems. The closing date for applications is clearly specified in the vacancy listing, and interested candidates should note that enquiries may be directed to the named contact person using the telephone number provided. It is advisable to review the full circular and apply through the prescribed online application channel before the deadline. Given the emphasis on information management within a real-world health provider environment, the successful candidate will need to combine technical competence with practical supervisory and coordination ability, making this an ideal career step for those with a strong background in health data and systems administration.
