This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the professional development of staff within the Western Cape Government’s health sector, specifically as an Administrative Officer for Human Resource Development within Metro Health Services. Based in the Office of the Chief Director, the role is central to supporting the broader HRD section that serves the metropolitan health district. The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient and effective administration of key development programmes, including bursaries, the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), and Adult Education and Training (AET) initiatives. This is not merely a clerical role; it requires a solid understanding of public service human resource prescripts and the ability to manage multiple administrative streams simultaneously.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification, and crucially, must have appropriate experience in Human Resource Development. This experience should demonstrate a practical familiarity with the administration of learning and development interventions. A valid Code B/EB driver’s licence is an inherent requirement of the job, indicating that the role may involve travel or the need to attend off-site activities. In terms of competencies, the ideal candidate will possess basic computer literacy, good communication and interpersonal skills, and a working knowledge of the human resource prescripts applicable in the Public Service. These skills are essential for liaising with internal stakeholders, handling enquiries, and maintaining accurate records.

The core duties are varied and demand strong organisational capabilities. The officer will be tasked with the coordination, development, and implementation of the Workplace Skills Plan, the annual training report, and quarterly reports, ensuring compliance with reporting deadlines and accuracy of data. Administrative support to the MHS Human Resource Development Section is a key responsibility, which includes drafting correspondence, filing, and maintaining records. The role also involves rendering administrative support for training interventions, capturing data, and maintaining databases. Furthermore, the officer will be expected to handle both telephonic and written enquiries from staff and external parties, requiring a professional and helpful demeanour. The ability to prioritise tasks and work systematically is vital to ensure that all training-related administration runs smoothly.

This is a permanent post within the public service, graded according to the OSD framework, and offers a stable career path. It is important to note that no payment of any kind is required when applying for this position, and applicants should be wary of any requests for money. The role is based in the Cape Town metropolitan area, and the enquiries contact is provided for questions about the post itself. This vacancy presents a valuable opportunity for an experienced HRD administrator who is looking to apply their skills within a large, dynamic public health environment, contributing directly to the capacity building of the workforce.
