This permanent position offers an opportunity to serve as an Administrative Officer for Finance and Admin (Revenue) within the Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services, based at the Orthotics and Prosthetic Centre and the Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre. The role is essential for ensuring that patient administration, medical records, and revenue management functions operate efficiently, accurately, and in full compliance with applicable financial instructions, circulars, policies, and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). As part of a wider network, the successful candidate will also be expected to travel between these facilities and Brackengate Transitional Care Facility whenever operational support is required, so a valid Code B/EB driver’s licence is an inherent requirement.

The core responsibilities are broad and include managing Patient Administration Services and Medical Records to enhance data quality and the integrity of patient information, as well as overseeing the fees department. This means implementing and enforcing relevant Finance Instructions, Revenue notices, Standard Operating Procedures and PFMA requirements, while also attending and conducting meetings and forums that relate to revenue and finance. The role also demands effective management of revenue debt and budget control, ensuring that monthly reports are completed and submitted on time, and providing clear feedback to management. In addition, the administrative officer is responsible for human resources management, which covers supervision, evaluation, and the handling of disciplinary procedures for staff under their control. There is also a need to support security contract administration, telecommunication service requests and repairs, and to provide broader support to management and staff as service delivery needs arise.

To be considered, applicants need a Senior Certificate or equivalent, with Mathematics and/or Accounting as passed subjects, or a Senior Certificate combined with experience and competencies that focus on the key performance areas of the post. Appropriate experience in revenue, specifically in patient administration and medical records, is essential, as is experience within a hospital administration environment. The ideal candidate will be computer literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access) and possess working knowledge of systems such as AR System, Clinicom and BAS, as well as an understanding of UPFS, Chapter 18, PFMA, handling of state money, and all related circulars, instructions and policies. Strong supervisory, interpersonal, leadership and communication skills are required, along with a sense of responsibility, good organisational and administrative abilities, and the capacity to work under pressure and within a team. The position is graded according to the Occupation-Specific Dispensation (OSD) and offers an annual salary with service benefits, including a 13th cheque, employer pension contributions, and housing and medical aid allowances. Enquiries may be directed to the named contact person.
