ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER: DISABILITY ASSISTANT: SIGN LANGUAGE

• Provide disability support for deaf and hard-hearing employees
• Interpret spoken communication into sign language and sign language into spoken language accurately and effectively
• Facilitate communication during meetings, training sessions, workshops, interviews and public events
• Provide administration services for deaf and hard-hearing employees
• Support disability awareness campaigns, commemorative days and training initiatives

• A National Senior Certificate / an equivalent plus an appropriate qualification (NQF 6) in Sign language Interpretation/ Linguistics/ Education or an equivalent qualification in the

relevant field / area as recognized by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA)

• A minimum of two years’ experience in the same or related field
• Ability to communicate and interpret sign language
• Valid driver’s license

Knowledge of working with deaf people, Sign language, In-depth knowledge of South African Sign Language (SASL), Understanding of deaf culture and communication needs, Knowledge of professional interpreting ethics and confidentiality. Knowledge of disability services. Excellent sign language and verbal communication, Strong listening and comprehension abilities, Ability to interpret accurately and under pressure, Professionalism and integrity, Good interpersonal and relationship management skills, Cultural sensitivity and awareness, Time management and organizational skills, Ability to work independently and part of a team.
