This vacancy is for an Administrative Clerk within the Chief Directorate of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), specifically the Provincial Coordination component, based at the Head Office in Johannesburg. The role is a vital support function within the department, ensuring smooth day-to-day administration, record-keeping, and coordination with both internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent will work as part of a team that facilitates the provincial coordination of EPWP initiatives, and the position is ideal for a motivated entry-level applicant seeking to build a career in the public service.

To be considered, candidates must have a Grade 12 certificate. While no prior work experience is required, any exposure to administrative duties will be an added advantage. The successful applicant should be familiar with GPG and DID policies and procedures, as well as legislation and Public Service Regulations. Strong communication, analytical, report writing, and research skills are essential. Computer literacy is also required, including proficiency in MS Word, basic Excel, and Outlook. Desirable personal attributes include being self-driven, a team player, adaptable, and innovative.

The duties are varied and central to the effective functioning of the component. These include recording, organising, storing, capturing and retrieving correspondence and data, updating registers and statistics, and handling routine enquiries. The clerk will also make photocopies, send and receive faxes, distribute documents or packages to stakeholders, and maintain the component’s filing system. Typing letters and other correspondence, keeping the incoming and outgoing document register, and liaising with stakeholders on procurement of goods and services are also key responsibilities. The incumbent will obtain quotations, complete procurement forms for standard office items, and manage stock control of office stationery. Additional responsibilities involve maintaining the asset register for district offices, the leave register, personnel records, and the attendance register for the component. The role also includes arranging travel and accommodation, capturing and updating expenditure, checking subsistence and travel claims before submission to the manager, and handling telephone accounts and petty cash. These duties require a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and initiative.

Applicants should take note of the broader recruitment conditions attached to this post. The department encourages youth, people with disabilities, and applicants from Coloured, Indian, and White population groups to apply, in line with equity targets; a confirmation of disability from a registered medical practitioner must be attached. The selection process includes pre-entry assessments, a practical exercise, and an integrity assessment, followed by a personnel suitability check covering criminal records, citizenship, credit records, qualifications and employment history. Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation certificate. Applications must be submitted on the new Z83 form with a recent CV, and only shortlisted candidates will need to submit certified copies of qualifications. It is important to note that the department will not accept applications that are posted, emailed, or hand-delivered. If applicants do not receive feedback within three months of the closing date, they should consider their application unsuccessful. This position offers a valuable opportunity for a dedicated individual to contribute to public service administration and the EPWP’s provincial coordination efforts.
