This is a re-advertised administrative clerk position within the National Prosecutions Service, based at the Directorate of Public Prosecutions in Mthatha. The successful candidate will form part of a team that supports the broader prosecutorial functions of the office, ensuring that administrative operations run smoothly so that legal staff can focus on their core duties. The role is graded at Level 05 and offers a stable career opportunity within the public service, with the usual benefits attached to such a post. The position calls for a person who can work independently while also collaborating effectively with colleagues, stakeholders and other state departments.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent qualification. Beyond the formal qualification, the role demands demonstrable competency in acting independently, professionally, accountably and with credibility. Strong planning and organising skills are essential, as is the ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms. General computer literacy is required, specifically a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. The successful candidate will also need good people skills, strong interpersonal abilities and the capacity to act without constant supervision. These competencies are central to managing the varied administrative demands of a busy prosecutorial office.

The main duties of the post are wide-ranging and include providing high-quality administrative support to the office as a whole. The administrative clerk will be responsible for designing and maintaining a well-organised administrative system, executing a variety of tasks that support line functionaries, and drafting correspondence to other organisations and state departments. Liaison with corporate services on all matters related to the administrative functioning of the office is a key responsibility, as is providing administrative support to legal staff in the areas of finance, logistics and human resources. The role also involves practical tasks such as delivering mail, photocopying, faxing, and receiving and dispatching documents. Efficient administrative services must be provided across the cluster, and the clerk will liaise with customers and stakeholders, manage diaries, receive correspondence for the section, and collect information for civil matters addressed to the unit or group.

Applicants should note several important conditions attached to this vacancy. The appointment will be provisional pending the outcome of a security clearance at least at confidential level, and fingerprints will be taken on the day of the interview. Shortlisted candidates may have their social media accounts accessed as part of the verification process, and a valid driver’s licence will be required where applicable. Applications must be submitted using the most recent Z83 form, accompanied by a comprehensive CV, and must reach the NPA by the closing date. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA if shortlisted. The NPA reserves the right not to fill the position, and candidates who do not receive feedback within six months of the closing date should consider their applications unsuccessful. This is a public service position, and successful applicants should note that the NPA does not pay resettlement costs.
