An administrative clerk position is available within the auxiliary services component of the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services, based at the KwaZulu-Natal Regional Office in Durban. This role sits within the Regional Coordination and Oversight directorate and is central to ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the regional office. The successful candidate will act as the backbone of office support, handling a wide range of administrative and logistical functions that enable the broader team to focus on its core mandate. This is a junior administrative post within the public service, offering an opportunity to contribute to the correctional oversight environment while developing practical skills in office management and coordination.
Applicants must hold a Grade 12 or senior certificate. Beyond the formal qualification, the role demands solid administrative knowledge, including record management and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Computer literacy in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is required, and a valid driver’s licence is a non-negotiable requirement, given the transport and logistics responsibilities attached to the post.
The core duties are varied and practical. The administrative clerk will manage the support services of the regional office, which includes making travel arrangements for staff, preparing for meetings, and typing documents as needed. Asset management at the regional office is another key responsibility, ensuring that equipment and resources are properly recorded and maintained. The role also involves providing general administrative support to the office, coordinating transport and logistics, and stepping in to perform reception duties when required. This is a hands-on position that requires flexibility, organisation and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Candidates should note that the application process is strict. A fully completed and signed new Z83 application form must be submitted together with a comprehensive CV, and only shortlisted applicants will be asked to provide certified copies of qualifications and other documents. Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation report if the applicant is shortlisted. All shortlisted candidates will undergo a pre-entry practical exercise as part of the assessment, as well as an integrity or ethical conduct assessment. Suitable candidates will also be subjected to personnel suitability checks, including criminal record, citizenship, credit record, qualification and employment verification. By applying, candidates consent to the processing of their personal information in line with POPIA. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates, and if no feedback is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful. The employer reserves the right not to fill the post, and the successful candidate will be required to sign an employment contract and performance agreement. The appointment will be made in accordance with the Public Service Act of 1994.
