The Administrative Clerk for Auxiliary Services position is based at the Eastern Cape Regional Office in East London, within the Regional Coordination and Oversight directorate of the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services. This entry-level administrative role is central to keeping the regional office running smoothly, providing support that allows the broader team to focus on its oversight functions. The successful candidate will be appointed as a level 05 employee under the Public Service Act, meaning the post carries the standard responsibilities and conditions associated with that administrative grade.
Applicants need a Grade 12 or senior certificate, together with a sound working knowledge of administrative processes. The role demands strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and the capacity to handle multiple tasks at once. General administrative capabilities, including record management, are essential. Computer literacy in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is also required, and a valid driver’s licence is a non-negotiable requirement, as the duties include transport and logistics coordination.
The day-to-day responsibilities are varied and practical. The incumbent will manage the support services of the office, which includes arranging travel for staff, preparing meetings, and typing documents. Asset management for the regional office is another key duty, ensuring that equipment and property are properly recorded and maintained. The role also involves providing general administrative support to the broader regional team, making sure office operations are efficient and well-organised. In addition, the clerk will ensure transport and logistics support is available when needed and will step in to perform reception duties from time to time. This is a hands-on position that requires flexibility, good organisation, and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
There are several important conditions attached to the post. The application process itself is strict: applicants must use the new Z83 application form, fully complete, initial and sign it, and submit it together with a comprehensive CV as a single PDF document. Applications that do not follow these instructions will be disqualified. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and they will need to bring certified copies of their qualifications on or before the interview date. Shortlisted candidates must also undergo a pre-entry practical exercise and an integrity assessment as part of the selection process, and successful applicants will be subject to personnel suitability checks, including criminal record, citizenship, credit, qualification, and employment verification. By applying, candidates consent to their personal information being processed in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act. If no feedback is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful. The JICS also reserves the right not to fill the post, and the successful candidate will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement.
