This advertisement announces four administrative posts within the South African Police Service at the Nelspruit Provincial Organised Crime Centre (POCC). The successful incumbents will form part of a team providing essential administrative and clerical support to personnel in this operational environment. The broader context of the work is to assist in reducing priority crimes by enabling effective operational coordination, record-keeping, and logistical management within the unit. This is a level 05 position and forms part of the broader public service employment framework, with appointments governed by the Public Service Act. The role is demanding and requires individuals who are willing to work under pressure and beyond ordinary hours when necessary.
Applicants must be South African citizens and must be able to provide documentary proof of citizenship at the time of the interview. A Grade 12, Senior Certificate, NCV Level 4, or an equivalent qualification on NQF level 4 as recognised by SAQA is required. Proficiency in English and at least one other official language is essential, along with general computer literacy in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Office, MS PowerPoint, and Outlook. Relevant courses in the administrative field will be an added advantage. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to act independently, professionally, and with accountability and credibility. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary, as are sound planning, organising, problem-solving, and administrative skills. Interpersonal skills and a customer-focused, responsive attitude are also key, together with a willingness to work extended hours when required.
The main duties include providing administrative and clerical operational support to POCC personnel, administering correspondence and ensuring accurate record-keeping of files, and managing logistical matters. The role also involves controlling human and physical resources within the unit and supporting the implementation and maintenance of performance management processes and job descriptions. In addition, the incumbent will assist with activating integrated operational strategies aimed at reducing opportunities for priority crimes, improving response to such crimes, and minimising their occurrence. Other responsibilities include monitoring and reporting on operational communication, recording all relevant information, and updating combat boards and systems.
Shortlisted candidates must be prepared to undergo a thorough vetting process, including security screening, fingerprint screening, reference checking, and verification of addresses where necessary. There are also pre-entry assessments, including a practical exercise and an integrity assessment, which will be scored as part of the interview process. Candidates must have no previous criminal convictions or pending criminal or departmental cases. Certain appointments are subject to vetting in terms of sex offender and child protection legislation, and candidates must disclose any protection orders against them. New appointees will be required to provide a buccal sample for forensic DNA profiling as mandated by legislation. The SAPS is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer, and preference will be given to candidates whose appointment promotes representivity. Applicants should note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and if no response is received within three months after the closing date, the application should be regarded as unsuccessful.
