This position is for an Administration Clerk based at the Vhembe District office in Makhado Municipality, within the provincial department. The role is an entry-level clerical post that supports the smooth running of the district office by handling a broad range of administrative tasks. Working as part of a team, the clerk will be responsible for providing general administrative support, assisting with supply chain management clerical services, and offering financial administration support. The role also involves direct client-facing duties, including capturing client information, updating the client register, and assisting with the distribution of food parcels. In addition, the incumbent will help collect and compile statistics and ensure that filing and record-keeping systems are maintained properly. This position is well suited to someone who is organised, computer literate, and able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms, as the work requires regular interaction with colleagues and members of the public.

To be considered for this post, applicants must have a recognised NQF level 4 qualification, which is equivalent to Grade 12, or another qualification recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority. A valid motor vehicle driver’s licence is also required, although an exception is made for persons with disabilities. Beyond the formal qualifications, the department is looking for candidates with strong computer literacy, good interpersonal relations, and the ability to plan and organise their work. Knowledge of the legal framework governing the Public Service is essential, as is the ability to work well within a team and produce reports as needed. These skills are important because the duties are varied and require attention to detail, especially when handling financial and supply chain documentation.

The main responsibilities of the post include rendering a variety of administrative duties, providing supply chain management clerical services, and supporting financial administration. The clerk will also assist in collecting statistics, intake of client information, filing records, distributing food parcels, and updating the client register. These tasks are central to the effective functioning of the district office and contribute directly to service delivery in the community.

Applicants should note that this is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. Women and people living with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply. All shortlisted candidates will be subjected to security clearance and verification of qualifications, and will be required to undertake two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise to determine technical and generic suitability, and one integrity assessment. The recommended candidate will also undergo a personnel suitability check. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA. The department reserves the right not to make an appointment, and correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates. If no feedback is received within three months after the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful. Candidates attending interviews will need to cover their own travel, accommodation, and meal costs. The department also runs a separate graduate internship programme for unemployed youth, but this particular vacancy is for a permanent administrative clerk position.
