This position offers an opportunity to serve as an Administration Clerk within the Radio Technical Units of the South African Police Service, based in Kimberley. The role is situated in a technical support environment, where the incumbent will be responsible for providing comprehensive administrative support to ensure the smooth functioning of the unit. As an administration clerk, the successful candidate will act as a key link between various administrative functions, supporting human resources, financial services, supply chain management, and general office operations. The post is graded at a recognised public service level and forms part of the broader SAPS support structure, contributing to the operational readiness of the technical unit.
Applicants must be South African citizens and be able to furnish documentary proof of citizenship at the interview stage. A Grade 12 Senior Certificate, National Certificate Vocational at Level 4, or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA at NQF level 4 is required. Relevant courses in the administrative or clerical field will be an added advantage. Candidates should be proficient in English and at least one other official language. The role demands sound computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Office, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as the ability to work independently, professionally, and with accountability and credibility. Strong verbal and written communication, planning, organising, administrative, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with interpersonal skills, customer focus, and responsiveness. The successful candidate must be willing to work under pressure and beyond normal working hours when required.
The main duties of the post are varied and include administering human resource management policy implementation and compliance, which involves supporting HR processes at the unit. The clerk will also handle financial service support and expenditure administration, ensuring that financial records and transactions are properly managed. In addition, the role requires administering effective and efficient supply chain management functions, specifically procurement-related duties at the unit. The incumbent will render general administrative service support to the unit and manage loss administration, which involves recording and processing losses in line with SAPS procedures. These responsibilities require a methodical approach, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with integrity.
Short-listed candidates will be required to produce original documents, including an identity document, Senior Certificate, educational qualifications, service certificates, and a driver’s licence, before the interview. Qualifications and licences will be verified with the relevant institutions. Applicants must have no previous criminal convictions or pending criminal or departmental cases, and they must consent to fingerprinting, background enquiries, and a full security clearance process. The vetting process may include security screening, reference checking, and address verification. All short-listed candidates will undergo a personal interview and two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability, and an integrity assessment. Appointments are subject to the Public Service Act, and candidates whose particulars appear on the National Register for Sex Offenders or the Child Protection Register will be disqualified. New appointees must also provide a buccal sample for forensic DNA profiling as required by legislation. The SAPS is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer, and preference will be given to candidates whose appointment promotes representivity. Persons who retired from the Public Service through severance, early retirement, or medical retirement are excluded, as are those with previous convictions. Correspondence will be limited to successful candidates, and those not contacted within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
