This vacancy is for an Administration Clerk within the Strategic Management Support Services unit of the Western Cape Government’s Provincial Treasury. The role is a clerical-level position, graded at salary level 05, and forms part of the broader public service administrative support structure. The incumbent will work within a team that supports strategic planning, service delivery, reporting, and logistical coordination for the department. This is an entry-level to mid-level clerical post that requires a solid understanding of government processes and the ability to handle a variety of administrative tasks in a structured environment.

To be considered, candidates must hold a Grade 12 Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification. The role demands a working knowledge of clerical duties and practices, including data capture, computer operation, and the collection of statistics. An understanding of the legislative framework governing the Public Service, as well as the working procedures relevant to the environment, is essential. In terms of skills, the successful candidate will need strong numeracy and literacy, computer literacy, job knowledge, effective communication, good interpersonal relations, flexibility, teamwork, planning and organisational ability, and sound verbal and written communication skills. These competencies are necessary to support the unit’s planning, reporting, and service delivery functions.

The main duties of the post are varied and centre on providing general clerical administrative support across several key areas. This includes assisting with planning processes, which may involve gathering and organising information, preparing documents, and supporting the coordination of planning activities. The clerk will also provide clerical administrative support for service delivery, ensuring that administrative processes run smoothly and that relevant records are maintained. Another important responsibility is rendering clerical support for reporting and performance information processes, which involves collecting data, maintaining statistics, and helping to prepare reports for management. In addition, the clerk will render general clerical administrative support for logistical services, such as arranging meetings, managing resources, and handling correspondence related to logistics.

Candidates should be aware of several conditions attached to this post. The selection process will be guided by the equity targets of the employing department, meaning that employment equity considerations will play a role in shortlisting and selection. By applying, candidates consent to the Western Cape Government contacting previous employers or managers for an employment reference, and these reference checks will include enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. All shortlisted candidates must make themselves available for an interview at a date, time, and place determined by the selection panel. They will also be required to submit duly completed and signed vetting and supporting documentation within a timeframe communicated by the Western Cape Government, prior to the interview date. Failure to provide these documents within the prescribed period, without reasonable justification, may result in the candidate being removed from the recruitment process. Given the high volume of applications received, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted; if no response is received within ten weeks of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful. This post is advertised through the provincial circular system, and all relevant application instructions and deadlines are contained in the official advertisement.
