This position is for an Administration Clerk within the Public Employment Services (PES) unit, based at the Department of Employment and Labour’s Provincial Office in KwaZulu-Natal. The role sits at the heart of the department’s efforts to connect job seekers with work opportunities and to regulate the labour market in line with national and international standards. As part of the PES team, the incumbent will support a range of functions that facilitate employment placement, manage cross-border labour migration information, and oversee the registration and certification of private employment agencies operating in the province. The work is administrative in nature but carries significant responsibility, as it directly supports the department’s mandate to promote decent work and fair labour practices.
To be considered for this post, applicants must hold a Grade 12 or Senior Certificate. The role requires a working knowledge of relevant International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions, Human Resource Management principles, and the Batho Pele service delivery framework. Candidates should also demonstrate a solid set of skills, including planning and organising, verbal and written communication, analytical thinking, computer literacy, presentation abilities, interpersonal skills, report writing, and an innovative approach to problem-solving. These competencies are essential for engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and for managing the administrative demands of the unit.
The core duties of the Administration Clerk involve liaising with identified stakeholders to secure placement opportunities for work seekers. This includes building and maintaining relationships with employers, government departments, and other key partners to source vacancies and coordinate large provincial opportunities. The clerk will also be responsible for making information available to support the coordination of International Cross-Border Labour Migration functions, which involves handling data and documentation related to migrant workers. In addition, the role supports the coordination of the registration and certification of Private Employment Agencies, ensuring that these agencies comply with relevant legislation and departmental processes. The position therefore requires a person who can handle multiple tasks, work independently, and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
This vacancy is advertised as part of the Public Service Vacancy Circular and is subject to the department’s employment equity targets. In line with these targets, priority will be given to African males, Indian males, White males, and White females. The successful candidate will be expected to uphold the values of the public service and contribute to the efficient delivery of employment services in KwaZulu-Natal. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented individual who is passionate about public service and labour market administration. The post offers a stable career path within a government department, and the duties provide broad exposure to employment policy implementation, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory support. Applicants should ensure they meet all the educational and skills requirements before applying, as these are essential for performing the duties effectively. The position is based in Durban, and the successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Director: Public Employment Services.
