This position offers an opportunity to serve as an Administration Clerk within the Office of the Head of Department at the Western Cape Mobility Department, a provincial government entity. The role is central to ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the HOD’s office by providing a broad spectrum of clerical and administrative support. As a Level 05 post, it is suited to an organised, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a structured public service environment and can manage multiple responsibilities with accuracy and efficiency.

The core purpose of the job is to render comprehensive clerical support across four main areas. This includes general clerical services such as filing, record-keeping, data capturing, and the operation of computer systems, as well as the collection and basic analysis of statistics. In addition, the incumbent will provide supply chain clerical support, which involves assisting with procurement processes and related documentation within the component. Personnel administration support is another key responsibility, encompassing tasks related to employee records, leave administration, and other human resource clerical functions. Finally, the role requires financial administration support, meaning the clerk will assist with budget-related documentation, expenditure monitoring, and compliance with financial prescripts. The work is guided by the legislative framework governing the Public Service, including National Treasury Regulations and Provincial Treasury Instructions, so a sound understanding of these rules is essential.

To be considered, candidates must hold a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent qualification. Beyond this, the department looks for individuals with knowledge of clerical duties and practices, the ability to capture data and operate a computer, and a working understanding of the legislative and procedural environment of the public sector. Strong skills in computer use, planning and organising, language, verbal and written communication, customer care, reporting, problem-solving, creative thinking, decision making, and interpersonal relations are all required. The nature of the work also demands a willingness to work irregular hours, meet tight deadlines, and perform effectively under pressure.

Shortlisted applicants should note that the selection process includes two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability for the post, and another assessing integrity and ethical conduct. Candidates will also need to submit duly completed vetting and supporting documentation before the interview, and failure to do so within the given timeframe may result in disqualification. The Western Cape Government applies employment equity targets in its selection process, and by applying, candidates consent to employment reference checks, including enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving previous positions. This is a demanding but rewarding role for someone who is organised, proactive, and committed to supporting the leadership of a provincial department.
