This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the smooth functioning of the Department of Social Development within the Western Cape Government as an Administration Clerk specialising in logistical services. The role is available at various locations and forms part of the broader administrative support structure of the department. As a clerical professional, the incumbent will be expected to work within the Chief Directorate, ensuring that day-to-day operational activities are carried out efficiently and in line with public service regulations. The post is graded at salary level 05, making it suitable for individuals who have completed their secondary education and are looking to build a career in government administration.

To be considered for this role, applicants must hold a Grade 12 Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification. Beyond the formal qualification, the department is looking for candidates who possess a solid understanding of clerical duties and practices, including the ability to capture data accurately, operate a computer, and collect statistics. Familiarity with the working procedures specific to the environment is essential, as is a sound understanding of the legislative framework that governs the Public Service. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong skills in numeracy, literacy, and language, along with effective presentation, decision-making, and computer abilities. Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the capacity to plan and organise work are also key attributes that will support success in this role.

The main duties of the Administration Clerk are varied and centre on providing comprehensive administrative support. This includes rendering general administration support services to the component, as well as providing supply chain clerical support within the Chief Directorate. The role also involves personnel administration clerical support, which may include assisting with employee records and related processes. Additionally, the incumbent will provide financial administration support within the component, helping to ensure that financial documentation and processes are handled correctly and in accordance with departmental procedures. These responsibilities require a detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively with colleagues across different sections.

There are several important conditions attached to this vacancy. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department. They must also submit duly completed and signed vetting and supporting documentation within the timeframe communicated by the Western Cape Government, prior to the interview date. Failure to provide these documents within the prescribed period, without reasonable justification, may result in the candidate being excluded from further consideration. All shortlisted candidates will undergo two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise to determine suitability based on the technical and generic requirements of the post, and another to assess integrity and ethical conduct. The selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the employing department, and by applying, candidates consent to the Western Cape Government contacting previous employers or managers for employment references, including enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. This is a demanding but rewarding role for those who are organised, ethical, and committed to supporting the department’s mission through efficient logistical and administrative services.
