This vacancy is for an Administration Clerk specialising in labour tenant matters, based in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, within the Tenure Reform Implementation directorate. The position is a 12-month contract appointment at a clerical level, with an allowance offered in lieu of benefits. It forms part of the department’s broader land tenure reform programme, meaning the successful candidate will provide essential administrative support to a team dealing with labour tenant processes and related documentation. The role is best suited to someone who is organised, service-oriented and comfortable working in a structured public-sector environment.
To be considered, applicants must have a Grade 12 certificate. In addition, the role requires good verbal and written communication skills, strong planning and organisational abilities, computer literacy, sound interpersonal relations and the ability to work effectively within a team. These skills are important because the work involves regular contact with colleagues, stakeholders and members of the public, as well as the accurate handling of documents, records and financial administration.
The duties are wide-ranging and centre on general clerical support. The incumbent will record, organise, store, capture and retrieve correspondence and data, update registers and statistics, and handle routine enquiries. Other day-to-day tasks include making photocopies, sending and receiving faxes, distributing documents to stakeholders, maintaining the component’s filing system, typing letters and other correspondence, and keeping the incoming and outgoing document register. The clerk will also take and draft minutes during meetings.
Beyond general office administration, the role includes supply chain clerical support. This involves liaising with internal and external stakeholders on procurement, obtaining quotations, completing procurement forms for standard office items, controlling office stationery stock and maintaining the component’s asset register. Personnel administration duties include maintaining the leave register, personnel records and attendance register, as well as arranging travel and accommodation for officials. Financial administration support is also required, including capturing and updating expenditure, checking subsistence and travel claims before they are submitted to a manager for approval, and handling telephone accounts and petty cash for the component.
Equity targets apply to this post, with specific preferences for African, Coloured, Indian and White males, Coloured, Indian and White females, and persons with disabilities. Applicants should note that this is a contract position and that the selection process will be guided by the department’s employment equity plan. The post is advertised through the relevant public service circular, and the contact person named in the advertisement can be approached for further information. This is an entry-level clerical opportunity for someone who is detail-driven and keen to contribute to the administration of land tenure reform in Mpumalanga.
