This position is for an Administration Clerk specialising in Information Management at Karl Bremer Hospital, operating within the Metro Health Services directorate of the Western Cape government health department. The role is central to ensuring that patient and service data captured across hospital and primary health care settings is accurate, reliable and fully documented. The incumbent will support the facility’s information management function by processing routine data, maintaining electronic health information systems and promoting a transparent and auditable data trail. The work requires close collaboration with clinical and administrative staff at all levels, as well as participation in information-related coordination activities that support service delivery and planning.
To be considered, applicants need at least a Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification, together with appropriate experience in health information management. The role specifically demands working knowledge of commonly used health information systems, including Sinjani, Clinicom, eCCR, DHIS, NHLS and Healthnet. Practical understanding of HAST, hospital and primary health care data operations and management, data flow timelines, and the relevant policies and procedures is essential. Strong numerical, organisational and interpersonal skills are required, along with conflict resolution abilities. The position also requires advanced computer literacy across the Microsoft Suite, including Office, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and OneDrive. A valid driver’s licence is an inherent requirement of the job.
The core duties include rendering information administration to ensure data is reproducible and documented for an auditable trail; routine data capturing and reporting using Sinjani and DHIS; assisting with data quality monitoring, verification and submission in the prescribed format according to the Information Management Policy; and helping to monitor data trends. The clerk will also participate in coordination activities and will liaise with staff across departments to ensure effective, transparent processes for data collection, collation, submission and presentation. Systems support forms a key part of the role, covering data quality, accuracy and access management activities. In addition, the position involves general office administration and providing support to the supervisor, colleagues and other departments.
Candidates should note that no payment of any kind is required when applying for this post, and shortlisted applicants will be subjected to a written or practical and oral assessment as part of the selection process. This is an opportunity for an organised, detail-oriented professional to contribute to reliable health information management within a public healthcare setting.
