This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the smooth functioning of a busy public health facility as an Administration Clerk specialising in Information Management, based at Khayelitsha District Hospital within the Metro Health Services directorate of the Western Cape. The role sits within the Eastern Sub-structure and is central to ensuring that patient and hospital data are accurate, secure, and readily available for reporting and decision-making. As part of a health information team, the clerk supports both the operational activities of the unit and its management by maintaining rigorous standards of data quality and information governance.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Senior Certificate or equivalent, and crucially, must have appropriate information management experience in a health environment. This includes hands-on familiarity with a range of specific health information systems: Clinicom, ECCR, SPV, HECTIS, and Sinjanie. These systems are used in the Western Cape public health sector for patient administration, clinical coding, reporting, and related data functions, so practical proficiency is essential. Beyond system knowledge, the successful candidate will need strong computer literacy, good interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to accept accountability and responsibility. The role also demands the capacity to work independently and without direct supervision, reflecting the need for reliability and sound judgment when handling sensitive information.

The core duties revolve around the integrity and availability of hospital data. The clerk must ensure the correctness, accuracy, and qualitative checking of all data captured, and will be responsible for capturing and generating hospital data reports on a regular basis. Day-to-day work involves effectively performing activities across the aforementioned health information systems. A key responsibility is maintaining health information systems (HIS) and ensuring the security of all data, including the compliant storage of records and information in line with departmental policies. In addition, the clerk provides administrative and operational support to the unit and its management, which may include assisting with routine office tasks, coordinating information flows, and helping to resolve data-related queries. This support role is vital for maintaining service delivery standards at the hospital.

Notably, the post is advertised through the Provincial Services circular and applicants are reminded that no payment of any kind is required when applying. Any enquiries related to the post can be directed to the named contact person at the hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced information management clerk seeking to apply their skills within a structured public health environment, contributing to better health outcomes through accurate data management and strong administrative support.
